FCF has become well populated over the last couple of months, maybe attributable to the close of Les Femmes.

Its a great chat site with many different people with diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicity, ideals and beliefs which gives an opportunity for us all to learn about each other

The issue is there are no moderators there which makes life difficult, stops public talking and allows the few who want to cause disruption a free ticket to do so.  They will take control of the board if we are not careful and cause a fall in numbers.

Whoever is in charge of this site now, for the good of all, please identify administrators who have some power to ban those who are not abiding by the rules and causing disruption for a perioid of time. 

I have never been one for wanting exclusion and have a strong belief system which promotes inclusion but disruptive behaviour is not good for the well being of those wanting to chat and make new friends.

Bans are only for a period of time and can vary in the time span depending on the severity of the offence.

Please bring us some administrators back before its too late

You should have included an image of a mushroom cloud here. What an old school tactic: make people afraid.

Poodle:this board is an example of self-policing. If you went back a little farther with it, before the crash drove away the genuine literati ( Dionysus, Diogenes, Ofecteau, G.R., among others), you would know that posters on this board were kept in check by the presence of "predatory linguistic xenomorphs."

Check yourself, lest others take it upon themselves to check you.

Actually, the board is moderated now, by me.

That said, we're very permissive here. People are free to discuss their opinions. Spamming is not allowed, being off topic is not allowed, etc. And we've always had strict policy about the ages of the girls and boys depicted in stories or otherwise.

Have there been problems lately? I admit I might have missed a post, but in general the board is policed, but it also embraces free speech.

A moderator is not a bad thing. Someone to keep order in the face of excessive spam and egregious posting offenses,  which  I will define as boorish, witless, pointless invective poorly written (humor and a tight grasp of proper sentence structure and grammar  will make any post worthwhile). But in a properly functioning, self-policing board, as this was before the crash, a moderator is as superfluous and unneeded as the Ultimate Surrender referee.
 
What IS missing from this current board are interesting, clever and well written posts. I miss the feuds, and not just as an example of the board policing itself. I miss the reviews of Dionysus. I miss the controversy engendered by his takes on Foxycombat. I miss the poetry of Diogenes’ postings, as well as his generally sunny and helpful outlook (except when it came to APL and Mr._E). I miss the “Fish Dialogues” between G.R. and Ofecteau, probably the most illuminating, thought-provoking series ever on this board.

The crash, in eliminating all previous postings, did much damage to this fine board. But the biggest loss of all was in terms of  posters, and not just postings.

What i find fascinating is that people are posting on the old board, and then, after a few days, find their posts missing...and they get pissed...

I'm deleting the old boards now and will post a redirect today. The chat room is compromised by some loser, so a fresh install is on the way there too.

I've always seen the need for forum moderators, since it's too easy for spam to deluge a message board or newsgroup.  So thanks for moderating!

I've never seen a need for chat moderators, since the ignore feature makes it simple to self-moderate.  If anything, chat moderators don't encourage conversation; they stifle it.  I find the ignore feature invaluable, so thanks for including it on the chat side of the house.

Even worse is the behavior of some of the former moderators.  Catfighting is one thing; misogyny is wholly another.  This distinction appears to evade Guitarman, for one.

In the height of irony, the behavior moderators would ideally limit is his entire bag of tricks.  He uses a dozen different screen names (including, today, "pay back time" among others) and finds ways to short circuit chat activities.

It's more sad than ironic.
