Do you think there should be a time limit when inactive members should have their profiles deleted by admin... Just been review some that haven't been active in years?  Just curious...

Good question.

If you simply don't post, then, no.

Lots of members simply don't post.  They just might want to log in from time to time, visit, chat and see who's here (maybe pm someone) but that's all they want to do.

I think a better idea would be if someone has been inactive (as in not logging in) for at least 6 months they should get an e-mail telling them to log in or they get dumped into an inactive member archive.  If they then don't log in for, say, another 6 months then they get a final e-mail saying you're a deadweight and you need to at least log in or your profile gets canned.

Your main point is obviously what's the benefit of having members' profiles listed who have kicked the bucket and I agree:  Nothing.

Panther100 your right, what I meant to say is what you suggested correctly, if someone hasn't logged in for say 6 months since creating their profile they should get notified of pending cancellation... As it stands now members numbers (a to z) keeps growing but you most likely could reduce it by a quarter with all the dead profiles.  Even if it was just done once or twice a year... Just a thought is all!! Thanks Donna_40

Inactive members aren't bothering anybody ...

The issue is simply to know the real members from those who are history and killing their profiles if so.

Not much sense maintaining a membership database with ghosts.

Other than maybe saving a profile's information for your own benefit, it's worthless saving profiles of those dudes (dudesses  Grin ?) who have permanently left.

What do you want to do ? ...

Send 'em a pm and then wonder if they're still around ? ...

lmfao  It doesn't bother anybody, but they need to get rid of them?  When someone can explain how that makes a lick of sense, let me know.

I didn't say that Jade.  I just share my experience as a group owner.  I understand here might be different.  but if you go sometimes in the chat room, it means you are active.  posting here  is not an obligation indeed...
Well anyway, I don't rule this forum so I don't have anything to say *giggles*...that was just my two cents.

Hi gaelle, my comment on this subject was not met to be directed at your post, sorry if you thought i was talking about you,my comment was for donna 40 for saying profiles should be delete, just because someone does not posted here in public she should just  keep to her own friends here and leave the rest of us alone

Jade,  I would never let anyone delete you if I  was asked who should go.  I think  names should be deleted only  if they don't show as signing on to any page here  after 1 yr.  That seems fair to me.

We won't be deleting any users unless they specificaly request us to do so.

It's an interesting debate but for me, it's not an issue. an extra 10 / 1000 / 10000 users in a database doesn't (or shouldn't) make any difference to the running of a site. Yes, if those 10,000 users are active and posting / chatting at the same time, then there would be problems re server resources but to date, the most users we have ever had online is around 190, so I don't think theres much value in wiping out people due to account innactivity.

cheers

Wow I didn't mean to start a witch hunt but I was only observing like on the first page members list and say "15" is the profile name or "123" is the profile name and both registered on 2004 but last active is "never" ... I was just asking if a person created a profile but then never makes it active for two or three years normally an admin or someone managing the sight might want to delete...  But if they feel there is more then enough room to have on-going "never active" profile than that fine too... Regards...Donna
