Esther Williams versus Jane Russell is one of my very favorite fantasy matchups of all time.  A recent article in Jezebel magazine analyzing Marilyn Monroe's figure and size stated that Marilyn was a curvacerus women with a physique heavier and curvier than is in vogue now.  The article MM was outdone by Jane Russell and Esther Williams who were more voluptuous, larger-framed and more athletic than any we see on the screen today.  What a build-up for this fight.

These women have met in the past.  Sim Guy(Feb 2000) had Esther winning a ten round match by knock out in the last round after getting beat up by big Jane badly in the early rounds.  A comment on this article stated that Williams had held several titles, then lost a bruising California State Title battle to Jane Russell.  In response to a 1950 Celebrity Tournament in the old KimGin site, I had Esther winning a close wrestling match after an epic 21 minute battle.

Who will win this classic matchup???

My picks.

• Claudia Cardinale beats Martha Hyer in a surprisingly close fight. Martha may gook sophisticated but she can be down to earth as in her western movies. She will surprise Claudia with her strength and toughness. But Claudia is just too big and will wear her down.
• Elizabeth Taylor thrashed by Jayne Mansfield . An easy fight for Jayne. Elizabeth will come out will claws to rip the blonde's hair out. In stead Jayne will whip her and toss her around by the hair and eventually smother Elizabeth.
• Ursula Andress toys with Brigitte Bardot. Once Ursula has battered Brigitte she will have some fun for a change, teasing and humiliating the French sexpot.
• Esther Williams edges Jane Russell in the closest of fights. Agree with goldenerafan that Esther and Jane are evenly matched. Could go either way I see Esther being a tad stronger and quicker. Ya gotta love two big, strong, tough women going head to head.
• Jeanne Crain wins over Bettie Page. Jeanne has to win a fight sometime. Jeanne ties off on Bettie's chubby belly and knocks the hot air out of her. Bettie goes to her knees. Jeanne pulls her over her knees by her hair, yanks her bloomers down and spanks her.
• Sophia Loren over Marilyn Monroe. Sophia has had it easy for awhile and is getting cocky and overconfident. She looks upon Marilyn as a soft, blonde pushover. Marilyn is proud and knows how to fight back. She will give Sophia more than she can handle for awhile. But like Claudia, Sophia has too much size and strength for Marilyn to overcome. Just don't be surprised if there is an upset here.
• Diana Rigg squeaks by Angie Dickinson. Another very close fight that could go either way. I give the edge to Diana because Angie seems like the type of fighter suited for Diana's martial arts skills.
• Diana Dors knocks Gina Lollobrigida silly. The fiery Italian is no match physically for  the fiery blonde. She turns the tables on Gina by using Gina's dirty tactics against her.

On November 17, 2008, Glamour Fights ran a poll to rank the 32 celebrities in the 1950's Sex Symbol tournament.  After the completion of 24 rounds, and only seven rounds left, I thought it would be interesting to see how the combatants were doing compared to the initial poll.

Fighters doing much better than expected (improved by 6 positions or more include Mamie Van Doren (+12.5), Jayne Mansfield (+11.5), Gina Lollobrigida (+11) and Marilyn Monroe (+7).  Fighters that have disappointed by a large margin include Angie Dickinson (-12), Jane Russell (-12)and Jane Fonda (-8).

My thoughts on this round:

Claudia Cardinale vs Martha Hyer
Martha is probably still tired after her close win over Rhonda Fleming and the young Italian takes ful advantage of that and knocks the blonde out without too much trouble.

Elizabeth Taylor vs Jayne Mansfield
Jayne is too big and too strong for Liz who despite her bitchy attitude gets smothered and struggles to breath underneath the blonde's body.

Ursula Andress vs Brigitte Bardot
European battle sees Ursula kicking the French blonde's brains out in a short struggle. Brigitte is simply too weak to challenge one of the overall title favourites.

Esther Williams vs Jane Russell
Both women are tough and plan to outmuscle her opponent but Esther's got those strong legs as a deciding factor and she bodyscissors Jane into submission after a lenghty contest.

Jeannie Crain vs Bettie Page
Bettie turns Jeannie into her sex slave after slapping her silly right from the start. Whatever she chooses to do with the redhead afterwards is a mystery and could get some adult attention alert more then anything else...

Sophia Loren vs Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn claims to be tougher then anybody else out there but she wouldn't withstand Sophia's barrage of blows and earn herself a fine knockout defeat instead.

Diana Rigg vs Angie Dickinson
Diana's martial art skills come to the fore and she knocks out the slender Angie without much trouble.

Diana Dors vs Gina Lollobrigida
Another tough blonde who will crumble under some serious Italian fire power. Gina doesn't get bothered by Diana's strong physical shape, she just tears into every other woman without any warning and this time she'll succeed one more time and thump the blonde right on her ass.

My opinions for Round 25, Set 1

CLAUDIA CARDINALE over Martha Hyer:  Martha puts up some resistance, but the Italian is too fast and strong.

JAYNE MANSFIELD over Elizabeth Taylor:  Easy victory for the blonde bombshell.

URSULA ANDRESS over Brigitte Bardot:  Ursula is too strong and athletic for the French sex kitten.  Bardot is pinned in less than 3 minutes.

ESTHER WILLIAMS over Jane Russell:  Long and even match with both women getting a number of holds and showing good wrestling skills.  ESther finally gets a powerful leg scissors under Jane's rib cage.  Jane is out gas and is finally pinned by the swim queen.

BETTIE PAGE over Jeanne Crain:  Bettie slaps Crain silly before pinning her.

SOPHIA LOREN over Marilyn Monroe:  Sophia is just too strong for Monroe.  The Italian uses a powerful bear hug that causes the blonde to pass out.

DIANA RIGG over Angie Dickinson:  Good fight with a lot holds and chops.  Diana finally lands a lot of karate chops across Angie's throat to weaken the policewoman before applying a bow and arrow hold to force Angie's concession.

DIANA DORS over Gina Lollobrigida:  Close at first, but Diana wins it with a camel clutch.

- Claudia Cardinale vs Martha Hyer. The specialist of Claudia. An elegant, sexy blonde. She pins her easy but she doesn’t hit her. She want sexual dominate like nothing else.
- Elizabeth Taylor vs. Jayne Mansfield. Both weak, liz the bitch vs. Jayne the smart. Liz gives everything for squeezing the big melons but the blonde beat her with a grapevine pin. It is all she needs for smother the shorter woman.
- Ursula Andress vs. Brigitte Bardot. One side but interest fight. Two blonde sex symbols from Europe in the shame room. Ursula handles easy the weak French and grabs the chance to humiliate her. The double axe handle follows a good spanking and the end with Brigitte crying totally naked and dominated.
- Esther Williams vs. Jane Russell. A fight between the most underrated fighters. Both tall, tough, strong and old have a great fight. Esther is more muscular and drilled but this is catfight and the spirit gives the win to evil Jane with a leg hook pin.
- Jeanne Crain vs. Bettie Page. Easy win for Bettie against a weaker opponent with a back kneed double arm choke.
- Sophia Loren vs. Marilyn Monroe. Of course the most interesting fight but only for the names as they are the most famous stars here. But in the catfight there is only the Italian brunette. Very arrogant for let the ultimate blonde stole the glory. It is the most important fight for her so she tries to destroy Marilyn from the first second. The poor blonde screaming in pain and gives up after a deadly bodyscissor, but the brunette refuses to accept the surrender and combinates her grip with a hard smother. The limp blonde sexual dominated from the full in ecstasy Sophia…
- Diana Rigg vs. Angie Dickinson. Ambiguous and sexy fight between two disappointment gorgeous women. Angie is one of my top-5 in tournament as woman but as fighter is impossible to face the much bigger brunette. She wins with a schoolgirl pin and will sexual dominate the prettier and hotter blonde…
- Diana Dors vs. Gina Lollobrigida. A little “Sophia vs. Marilyn” fight with the classic blonde against the classic Italian. It is a “who the better woman is” fight. Diana is bigger but Lolo is tougher and wilder. This blonde is her beloved victim. She will torture and humiliates until she submits after many scissors. Of course she must pay the Italian for let her free. And the cost will be her curved body…

Most of the fights in this round are shall we say a bit one sided. The only one that is just to tough to call is Diana Dors taking on Gina Lollobrigida, and what a fight it would be. My thinking on this is to go for the underdog here, with that in mind Diana the winner here.

Brief synopsis of the fights:

Claudia Cardinale 38 vs Martha Hyer 31:Martha gave Claudia a tough fight and it even looked like she had a chance at one time. Then Claudia decided to get serious. She had been teasing Martha, letting her think she might win. Claudia turned on her power near the end of the fight and KOed Martha with a brutal punch. In spite of the size and strength disadvantage between herself and Claudia, Martha gave a good account of herself and ended up with the five closest fight of this round.

Elizabeth Taylor 22  vs Jayne Mansfield 46: Jayne was taking no chances with Elizabeth and her sharp claws. She knocked Elizabeth down, place her foot on her back and pulled both her arms in a twisting arm bar. Liza pleaded for mercy but Jayne then rolled her over, spread her legs and planted her foot on Liz's crotch. Jayne ended up giving Elizabeth the third worst beat down this round.

Ursula Andress 45 vs Brigitte Bardot 24: Ursula was not going to let a weak Brigitte Bardot ruin her perfect record and get in her way on her match to the title. She gave Brigitte the fourth worst beat down this round. The Swiss Miss totally dominated and humiliated the French sex kitten.

Esther Williams 37 vs Jane Russell 30: Two strong, tough women who are underrated. This was a very physical fight with each trying to strong arm and out muscle the other. The test of strength was equal for a long time with Esther and Jane trading advantages. Years of swimming and exercise turn the battle in Esther favor as she had the more stamina.

Jeanne Crain 29 vs Bettie Page 38: This fight turned out to be a pretty routine fight for Bettie as she handled Jeanne easily. Jeanne did her best to out quick Bettie but even if she got a hold on Bettie, Bettie was too big, too strong, and too experienced as a fighter for Jeanne to force any submission or pin her. As is her want and trade mark, Bettie spanked the hell out of Jeanne's sweet ass at the end.

Sophia Loren 35 vs Marilyn Monroe 34: This was the closest, longest fight of the round to the surprise of most. Marilyn fought like a tigress which caught Sophia off guard. Some suggested that Sophia was resting in preparation for her upcoming fight with Stella Stevens. If so it almost caused her the fight as Marilyn was supercharged for this fight. Marilyn resented the claim that Sophia wasn't taking it easy. "I'm just stronger, tougher, and a better fighter than you give me credit for" said Marilyn. Sophia just smiled and said "She can have a rematch any time she wants."

Diana Rigg 29 vs Angie Dickinson 37: This was a fight between quick, athletic women. It was the judo expert against the woman trained for police tactics. The skill of each gave her control over the other as it went back and forth. Angie won by surprising Diana with a leap where she clamped her legs around Diana's waist. Diana went down and Angie continued to squeeze until Diana had to surrender. he final result was greater than the closeness of the fight over all.

Diana Dors 40 vs Gina Lollobrigida 27: English vs Italian, blonde vs brunette, but both can be nasty although Gina is regarded to be the more fiery of the two. Both buxom with Diana having the slightly larger bust. Many figured the blonde could not stand up to the temper and explosiveness of the hot Italian. The opposite turned out to be true as Diana gave Gina the fifth worst beat down this round. After some early exchanges Diana nailed Gina with some solid blows to her jaw. Gian went down. From then on Diana dragged her around by the hair and never let Gina up as she worked her over.
