First fight.
« on: February 27, 2015, 09:29:01 PM »
This fight happened in 1976. The person who told me was 10 years old at the time. He does not want to be named on here, so I respect his wishes. He told me it got him interested in female fighting. This is what he told me:-

"I had to take the day off from school has I had an appointment with a dental specialist. This meant I had to travel a fair distance from home. I would enjoy the day off, but not the dental visit. Like every day out, mum would always be rushing me. This day was no exception. We had to go to one or two other places before we caught the train for our sixteen mile journey. I always seemed to be ready before mum, although she would rush.

We left the house in good time, mum always seemed to walk quicker in situations like this. Down to the end of the street, and then down a steep hill. It seemed going down the hill, mum was getting ready to run. The bottom of the hill, was a dead end to traffic but a flight of steps lead to the main road below. The steps were on a slight curve. You could not see the main road from the top, but once you went about a quarter of the way down, you could see almost all of the main road below.

Has we got to this point, we could see several women watching two other women arguing. We took another two steps at which point we could see the two women grab hold of each others hair and start to fight. "Quick!" mum suddenly called out. We started to run down the remaining steps. The bottom of the steps came out between two buildings. At which point we lost sight of what was going on. Has we came out between the two buildings we could see they were still fighting. Mum caught hold of my arm and rushed across the road. We rushed close to where they were fighting, by now quite a few more people were watching. Mum held me close by her side has we watched.

One woman seemed to be aged around forty five. She had greyish blonde hair and was of medium build. She had a grey knee length skirt on, with a cream coloured top. The other woman seemed to be aged around fifty to fifty five. She was wearing a dark blue skirt that came down just below her knees, she was wearing a pink top. She had dark brown hair with some of it starting to grey. (To a ten year old, women sometimes seemed a lot older than they actually were.) I can't remember what footwear they had on.

Both women were tugging each others hair causing their heads to move back and fore. There was some leg movement has their feet moved in little steps to steady themselves. I could also hear the sound of their shoes on the ground. This mixed in with screams of pain. The hair pulling stopped, they then stood motionless but still holding each others hair. This seemed to last for about a minute, then more hair pulling started. There was also some kicking between them.

Nobody seemed to be cheering them on, just standing there watching them. I felt afraid but also excited. Mum had her arm around my shoulders. My excitement become more-so has the hair pulling got more intense and they came towards where mum and I were standing.

They were suddenly in front of us. Mum and I took a step back. Mum seemed to hold me a little tighter. The younger woman seemed now to be screaming more than the older woman. I can't remember what happened next, but the younger woman was pulled down by her hair has though she was bending over in front of us. I could see high up the back of her legs. Again the both women seemed to stand motionless. Then a long drawn-out very high pitched scream came from the younger woman has the older woman tried to hold her down even lower. The older woman let go of her hair, the younger woman stood up. They faced each other.

After a couple of seconds, they went back at each other. Again they grabbed hold of each others hair. More hair pulling with heads going back and fore, with corresponding screams from both women. There was more kicking between them this time. There was a sudden louder scream from the younger woman, then both women seemed to stop fighting. They then backed away from each other. Has they did, the younger woman nearly walked into mum and I. There was some shouting between them before the older women, who was visibly upset, turned and walked away. The younger woman was taken into the reception room of a building by another woman.

Mum needed to go into this building, has it was a payments office for something. It was in here that I had the real lasting memory of this woman and the fight.

When we went into the reception room, the younger woman who had been fighting, was now sitting down by the receptionists table crying. She was holding her hands up to her face. The way she was seated, her skirt was half way between her knees and thighs. Has I sat next to mum, I just stared at her. There was some leg movement while she sat there crying. At one point I could see about three quarters of the way up her inside leg. The front of her both legs were now bright red from where she had been kicked. Just before mum got up to go into another room, the receptionist handed the woman crying a paper handkerchief. She started to wipe her eyes with this. I remember the woman looking directly at me has mum and I went into the next room.

When we came out of the room, the woman was still there but no longer crying. Again she looked directly at me. Outside the building I could not help looking back at this woman through the window. Again she looked directly at me.

I asked mum did she know what they were fighting over. Mum said no. She said she did not know them, although I think she may have. I think she may have found out what the fight was over, but she never would say. It was the first time I had seen two grown up women fighting. Although I was only ten years old at the time, I will admit it got me interested
