Maria and I were both on a Mediterranean cruise. We're both beautiful women and are taller than most. Maria at 5'11" and me at 6'0" Although she and I never spoke to one another directly, we both always seemed to be at the same place at the same time. If I was at the pool, I saw Maria there. If I was at the casino, so was she. When I visited the cocktail lounge, Maria did also. We never exchanged words, but there were plenty of times where we exchanged glances and glares at one another. We were always in the same places, vying for attention. I wanted the attention on me, and Maria wanted the attention on her. It soon became clear to each of us that we'd have a better time on this trip if the other one were not there.
At breakfast, on the final day of the cruise, Maria and I had tables facing one another. I tried to ignore her as best I could, but every now and then I'd look up and catch her stealing a glimpse of me and then quickly look away. She caught me doing the same to her. Then suddenly a well dressed man in a suit jacket went to her table and began speaking with her. Simultaneously, another very sophisticated gentleman came and began speaking to me. As the men were speaking to us, Maria and I locked eyes and gave each other a long prolonged stare, neither of us willing to blink or look away.
The proposal that the men had for us was this. They were wealthy executive businessmen who wanted to see a catfight. They noticed that there was an underlying rivalry going on all week between us, and that they'd be willing to pay handsomely if we were willing to settle things in front of a group of them in a catfight. As the men explained their proposal to each of us, I could see Maria's eyes widen. She nodded in my direction and I quickly nodded back. Each of the men, now satisfied that their proposal had been accepted, left the dining room.
Maria stood up from her table, leaving the remaining bit of breakfast on her plate and began walking towards me. I got up and did the same. Were we going to do this right here and now? She stopped in front of me and spoke first. It was the first time there were any words spoken between us this entire trip. "See you tonight at 7:00 in the Executive Suite," she said in a voice with a slight Mediterranean accent which I'll admit I found appealing. "Count on it, bitch!" I replied in my straightforward American voice.
