Another user made a great thread about who would people like to see Dolly fight and I mentioned Jolene.
Dolly was raised in a tough working family and I reckon in reality she would not have backed away from Jolene begging her not to take her man but she would have been all over her like a rash and threatening her like a wild country gal
So here is my take on the lyrics I think she would really have written. Any members feel free to improve and we can write the most awesome country song ever lol
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm warning you don't try to take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m telling you I’ll bald you if I can
I’ll fight you in my cowgirl boots
I’ll pull your hair out by it’s roots
I’ll kick your ass you dirty whore
Jolene
I’ll bite you, kick you, scratch your face
And put you in your rightful place
Our fight will cause a really ugly scene
He talks about you in his sleep
So here’s the promise I will keep
My nails are coming after you
Jolene
And I can easily understand
How you would want to take my man
But you don't know what he means to me
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm warning you don't try to take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m telling you I’ll bald you if I can
We both could have our choice of men
But I chose him so then again
I’ll fight for him you know I will
Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
To tell you what I’ll do to you
If you try to take my man
Jolene

Love it. Too bad there's no pic of Jolene to see.

That is an amazing idea! Honestly, when I saw the thread about Dolly, this was one of my first thoughts (yes, I'm kinda of calling my own thoughts amazing), but you were first to write it. And I'm glad you did :)
For me, it's not a problem that we can't see Jolene, because we can imagine her any way that we want. And the fight can also go any way we want depending on who Jolene is :)

My take on it would be actually a bit different... But I love you version!
In my case, I always imagined it as Dolly's boyfriend is someone who's into women fighting, particularly into boxing, and Jolene a sportive girl who has fighting experience. So he's seriously considering that she may be better than Dolly (as she talks about her in sleep) and Jolene, fully knowing and approving of his fetish, may challenge poor Dolly to a boxing fight. Dolly, fearing such a scenario, decides to talk with Jolene and appeal to her "women's features of the character", such as pity, and honestly tells her that in case of a fight, she would fight Jolene, but she's also convinced that she would lose a fight in a humiliating manner. Little does she know, that for Jolene such a talk is like red cloth to a bull, and she will challenge her to fight inmediately :)
That doesn't mean that Dolly will actually lose the fight, but when she goes to ring, she will be the clear underdog. Perhaps we can learn about this experience from some other song :)

Thanks for the reply I knew I wasn’t the only one who thought Dolly would fight Jolene

I always thought it was crazy that Dolly would have to save her man, being so just damn hot. If I was to picture a Jolene though it would be Christina Hendricks

I had an image of Jolene to look something like Lisa Todd from the old Hee Haw tv show. Or Nancy Kovak, if anyone remembers that far back. I see Dolly getting pushed around and being bullied early in the fight but then coming back and teaching Jolene a hard lesson. Then maybe singing a verse or two of song over the brunette's prone figure.

Dolly vs Lisa Todd would be great!

Dolly vs Lisa Todd would be great!
Nice! The big brunette picks a fight with the much shorter Dolly and the tough as nails blonde cuts her down to size.

I would prefer to see Jolene be more Dolly's size. Maybe somebody like Misty Rowe. As for Lisa Todd, Dolly recruits Lynda Carter to keep the big brunette honest.

I recall an interview with Dolly once, where the song was mentioned and she replied Jolene was either based on a real person or was real and that Dolly had fought with her and got her ass kicked!

While this catfight story is fictional, it features a country singer called Dolly, and was - of course - inspired by the idea of Dolly Parton in a catfight:

Dolly was always one of my secret crushes. Sweet. Pretty. Busty. What could be better? When I heard Jolene for the first time, I wondered how could Jolene possibly be hotter than Dolly? I never heard that they actually fought. The story I had heard from interviews was the name and flame red hair was based on a very young fan, but there was an actual bank teller who was flirting with Dolly's husband. And the fool apparently liked the flirting. The two comments I had heard from Dolly were now the teller is huge and not competition, and on the flip side, she occasionally looks at her husband and wish Jolene had taken him. Half Joking for both comments.

I always came to the conclusion that Dolly was just so sweet that the Jolene song would be her first volley to dissuade her rival. Pay her complements, tell her how pretty she is, appeal to her decency. But that wouldn't mean she would just let her take her man away. If honey didn't work, she'd go for the stinger. I wrote a Dolly song too. Not sure I ever posted it. But here is my version.
(Original Lyrics)
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you
Jolene
He talks about you in his sleep
And there's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name
Jolene
And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me
Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him even though you can
(My addition)
You are a beauty, yes it's true,
But I am told I'm a beauty too
There are many reasons why he is my man.
My hazel eyes and golden hair,
my perfect curves and face so fair
and other things you'll never understand
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I will never let you take away my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
You'll have to fight me for him if you think you can.
I've begged you, bitch, to do what's right,
but now I guess we'll have to fight.
I won't let you just take away my man.
I'll meet you anywhere you like,
we'll settle this in just one night
You and I will make our final stand.
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I have tried so hard to make you understand.
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'll fight you if you try to take my man.
Face to Face we'll start our brawl
My lucky man will see it all
He'll see how much I truly love my man
I'll scratch your face and pull your hair,
I'll maul your breasts and strip you bare,
You'll never try to steal another's man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm the better woman and you'll soon understand
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
You're Never going to take away my man.
