Barbarella 2025?
« on: May 12, 2025, 05:40:55 PM »
Just seen this. I'd love the remake to make up for the original, which was (to me) a huge disappointment.

https://screenrant.com/barbarella-sydney-sweeney-remake-confirmation-cast-updates/

If I had any say (unfortunately I don't) I'd have 'good girl' Barbarella vs 3 different bad girl opponents, each of whom gets to fight her multiple times throughout the movie. Every fight would be NHB with a focus on rolling around, catballing, pulling hair and Barbarella's opponents trying to dig their nails into her face.

I'd hire a director and fight choreographer who both adopt the Terence Young (From Russia with Love) philosophy of "let 'em fight". Bonus to be paid, as an incentive, to whichever 'bad girl' gets the sexiest anguished grimace out of Sydney due to her merciless hairpulling. And just like the original, always in boots!!!!

Not a chance of any of the above (other than the boots I suppose) though. But it's nice to imagine.

Who could be cast as 'bad girls'? Ideally 3 actresses who would dominate Sydney?

It seems when a "star" wants to take credit as producer, it (almost always? usually?) results in failure...although sometimes the failure is "epic" enough it turns into a 'cult classic' - like Vadim/Fonda's "Barbarella". I can only imagine Sydney Sweeney seeing this as her chance to convince Hollywood she's a "serious actress" instead of a bimbo...rather than embracing her 'bimboness' and making a film even more over the top than the original.

Since many of the "news items" in the original post were dated 2022...it may be that the project has been shelved and/or may never see the light of day... which would be a terrible blow to fans of the original - though applauded by legitimate "film buffs' (you know, like me...with all modesty)  ;D

If Sydnie Sweeney is the main character, Sabrina Carpenter should be the villainness.
