A TOTAL KNOCKOUT: Gayle vs. Anne

Cute Gayle was completely, desperately in love with her husband, Terry. They met in college. He was the only man who had ever paid any attention to the plain, mousy young woman.
For Gayle it had been love at first sight, but she had a problem. She hadn't been Terry's first love. When Gayle met Terry, he was hopelessly infatuated with a beautiful girl named Anne. Anne was everything a young man could want. She was a star tennis player, which kept her in great shape. She had impressive breasts and the face of a movie star. Everyone said Anne was a total knockout. That included Terry. Fortunately for Gayle, Anne knew she could do much better than Terry. Anne teased and flirted with Terry for her own amusement, but she had no real interest in him. Eventually Terry had no choice but to look for someone else. That led him to Gayle. Gayle wanted him with all her heart, but she knew she was only his second choice. . . a very distant second.
Anne moved away after college, much to Gayle's relief. Anne seemed to vanish. That was just fine with Gayle. Although Anne had never shown any interest in Terry, Gayle had lived in fear that she might. Gayle and Terry dated, married, and moved into a small house. Everything was going fine until one day about three years later, when Anne moved back to town. In a relatively small town, Gayle, Terry, and Anne were certain to run into each other. The first time it happened was at a grocery store. Anne walked over and struck up a conversation with Terry, completely ignoring Gayle. Anne's conversation was superficial, but Gayle didn't like the way her husband was looking at his former obsession. Gayle felt threatened. She tried to worm her way into the conversation by introducing herself as Terry's wife.
"Yeah, I remember you." Anne's voice sounded condescending.

Each time the trio crossed paths, Anne spoke to Terry in increasingly flirtatious ways. Gayle was fairly sure Anne had no real interest in him, but she seemed amused by his continuing awe of her. She wasn't sure if their meetings really were accidental or if Anne was arranging them. Gayle knew Anne saw Gayle as no competition for her and had absolutely no respect for her. Gayle believed Anne was only teasing and toying, but she wasn't sure if Anne was toying with Terry . . . or with her.
The most devastating encounter came when Gayle and Terry went to the beach. Gayle sat next to her husband wearing her usual modest, white one-piece swimsuit and wrap, which only brought out how pale Gayle was. She stayed under a beach umbrella to avoid a sunburn, and she still wore dark sunglasses and a big, floppy hat. After about an hour, Anne arrived wearing a tiny gold bikini that brought out her magnificent tan. She spread a beach towel out on the sand about fifteen feet from where Gayle and Terry sat and then relaxed back onto the towel. There were plenty of other spaces available. Gayle was sure Anne wanted Terry to look at her. He did. His gaze drank in every inch of Anne's delicious body. Gayle turned and looked over Anne's golden body from her blond hair to her toes. She grudgingly had to admit that she could understand her husband's former obsession with the beauty, but she told herself there was more to a woman than her body. Okay, she thought to herself, Anne's legs were much better than her own, but so what? Yeah, athletic Anne had a flat waist, while Gayle was a few pounds overweight. Their breasts were about the same size, though Gayle had to admit Anne's were firmer. Anne had a golden tan, while she was pasty white. Gayle's hair was black, while Anne was a blonde. Anne had huge, gorgeous brown eyes, a cute, perky nose, and a dazzling smile, but a perfect face wasn't everything, and neither was a perfect body. She was forced to admit to herself that physically Anne had her beat head to toe. She couldn't compete with the package, but she told herself that it's what's on the inside that counts. At least she hoped it was. Anne rolled over onto her front and rocked her feet in the air behind her. She looked over her shoulder with a sly, confident

expression that seemed to say, "Eat your heart out." Gayle wasn't sure if that was meant for Terry . . . or for her.
The situation finally reached the boiling point. Gayle wanted to get into shape, so she joined a local health club. She soon learned that Anne had joined the same club. Gayle began to believe that Anne was deliberately competing with her in an attempt to show her up. When Gayle finished using a weight bench, Anne immediately took it and thoroughly outperformed Gayle. She did far more steps than Gayle. No matter what exercise Gayle did, Anne immediately tried to prove she could do it better. It went on for weeks. When Gayle saw Anne laughing with a group of patrons, Gayle was sure they were laughing at her.
Gayle couldn't take any more. She marched up to Anne and said, "If you think you're bothering me, you're wasting your time. I know you've been flirting with my husband to amuse yourself. Flirt all you want. He's all mine, and that's not going to change. You can try all you like, but I've got him and you can't have him. You had your chance, but you lost out." Anne saw the smirks on the other patrons' faces. Insulted, the blonde said, "No. HE lost out, and he knows it! You only have him because I didn't want him. If I had, you wouldn't have stood a chance against me." She appraised the brunette challenging her. "You still wouldn't." Gayle couldn't let that slap in her face go unanswered. "Oh, I'd stand more than a chance. I'd beat you!" Anne almost laughed in her face. "You can't be dumb enough to believe that. You're a joke compared to me." Anne's arrogance had Gayle shaking with rage. Gayle asked, "You don't think I can beat you? Do you want to find out?" She glanced at the boxing ring at the back of the club. "How about you and me, in the ring?" Anne almost laughed. "You're delusional. You couldn't last two rounds with me." She turned to walk away. Gayle snarled, "If you're so sure, why are you backing down?" Anne spun with eyes blazing. "Oh, that's it! You're on! I want you in that ring! Make sure that Terry's here to watch me take you out!"
Anne's arrogance had forced Gayle into something she didn't really want, but she could

not and would not back down! She left the health club absolutely determined to defeat her long-time rival. Be sure Terry's there? Gayle wanted him there to see her leave his dream girl beaten at her feet! Gayle couldn't wait to tell Terry about the upcoming fight. He stared back at his wife in shock and disbelief. He said, "You can't go through with this! She'll kill you! You can't last three rounds against her!" Gayle's mouth fell open in shock. That hurt. Did he really think Anne was that much better than she was? Gayle said, "Be there! I want you to see that SHE can't last against ME! I'll prove to you that I'm better than she is!" Gayle had to win. She had to. She was going to. No matter what Anne did to her, she wouldn't go down. She'd beat Anne in front of Terry. Then he'd see.
On the night of the fight the two women stood in their corners staring at each other from across the ring. About thirty people were there to watch. Terry sat in the front of the crowd. A young female trainer from the club had been chosen to referee and judge the fight, but this was strictly a private matter that was kept secret from the club owners. It took place after hours and had to be kept off the record. They were scheduled for ten rounds. Terry doubted his wife would last through one.
In one corner stood the wife, Gayle, wearing a pale blue-gray top and matching shorts. She wore blue gloves and tennis shoes along with blue and white striped socks that came to just below her knees. Anne stood across the ring, wearing a bright yellow top, white shorts, gold gloves, and white tennis shoes with no socks. Gayle was nervous, but she knew her husband was watching her and was determined to win. Ann looked at Gayle with disdain. Her arrogance only made Gayle even more determined to beat her. She couldn't wait to start landing gloves on Anne.
The bell rang! Anne came out on her toes, while Gayle stepped out flat footed. Anne's face showed shock, as Gayle came out swinging! Gayle had developed a plan, but at that moment all she wanted to do was to pound Anne. Gayle had Anne on her heels! A scowl appeared on Anne's lips. She fought back. The crowd loved it, but Terry's heart thudded. His mousy wife was determined to take on his dream girl fist to fist! They threw wild punches. Blue

and gold gloves slammed bodies. It was all out with nothing held back. Gayle's pale legs shuddered. She tried to back off, but Anne was the athlete, not her, She had a hard time walking backward while punching at the same time. Anne's fist slammed hard into Gayle's belly. Pain filled Gayles' wincing face. Anne's fist slammed into Gayle's nose! Gayle wobbled and fell to her back! The crowd cheered. Terry shook his head. As he expected, it seemed that his wife couldn't last one round against the girl of his dreams. The referee started a count. Gayle sat up with a dazed expression. She shook her head, trying to clear the cobwebs. She looked up at Anne gloating over her. Gayles' eyes narrowed and she got up by the count of six. Anne came in on her with an arrogant smirk. A wide, swinging blow to Gayle's cheek almost sent her down again! The wife spent the rest of the round covering up, trying to protect herself. The bell rang. Anne easily won round one.
Anne stood in her corner wearing a wide smile. She bounced on her toes and held up her hands victoriously, as the crowd cheered for her. Gayle sat on a stool in her corner, watching Anne gloat. Gayles' pride had her wanting to take on the blonde toe to toe. She found out she couldn't, but Gayle was a smart girl. She had developed a strategy before entering the ring and decided it was time to carry out her plan.
The bell rang for round two. The fighters came out from their corners. Gayle held her gloves up by her cheeks. She believed the tennis star would instinctively throw wide, powerful swings. She was right. Anne threw a wide swing at Gayle's right cheek, but Gayle's glove blocked it. Anne swung her left fist and then her right, but Gayle's blue gloves blocked her. Suddenly Gayle fired a jab straight forward into Anne's pretty face! Ann took a step back. Her eyes were wide with shock! The crowd cheered for Gayle! Gayle snapped Anne's head back with another quick jab to the face! Angry, Anne fired a few swinging gloves, but clever Gayle's fists were up and blocked most of the impact. Anne landed a hard jab to Gayle's face that sent Gayle back on her heels! She fell back, clinging to the ropes to stay up! Anne was all over Gayle on the ropes, but Gayle covered up, protecting herself. Anne threw a flurry of golden gloves, but she

couldn't do any real damage. The bell rang. Both girls took their seats in their corners. Anne won another round, but Gayle felt confident. She knew she could defend against the better athlete. Now, it was time to hurt her. Gayle looked back over her shoulder at the crowd and saw her husband taking pictures with his phone. She wasn't sure which woman he wanted pictures of. She was determined to give him something to take pictures of, when she left his idol lying flat on her back.
The bell rang for round three. Gayle's gloves were up defensively, but now Anne's were, too. Gayle liked to think that Anne was a dumb blonde, but she was wrong. Anne was a smart girl too. Anne adjusted to Gayle's tactics. Anne kept her golden gloves up to protect her face. She knew Gayle was trying to keep her blue gloves up by the sides of her face to defend against Anne's tennis-style swings. That left her open to Anne's jabs. Gayle's face went blank each time Anne's fist hit her face. When she covered her face, Anne worked Gayle's waist. Now Anne was outsmarting Gayle, and Gayle didn't know what to do. She took a pounding. Gayle's pale thighs quaked and her ankles turned to jelly. Anne gave Gayle lightning-fast jabs to her mouth. When Gayle lifted her gloves over her face, Anne drove her fist deep into Gayle's belly. Gayle cried out in pain!
Anne had broken up Gayle's defense. She backed the brunette wife to the ropes. Gayle covered waist.  Anne jabbed gloves to Gayle's eyes. If she covered her face, Anne was free to punish Gayle's soft tummy. When she lowered her gloves to defend her waist, Anne slammed wide swinging gloves to Gayle's cheeks. The crowd cheered. The outclassed wife hugged Anne, clenching to try to stop the punishment. Boos filled the air. The referee brought them to mid ring and broke them apart. Anne went for Gayle's waist. When Gayle's gloves lowered, Anne fired a wild hay maker swing to the side of Gayle's face. Gayle crashed down, lying on her back at Anne's feet! The crowd loved it! Gayle lie flat on her butt, eyes closed! Terry whispered to himself, "Stay down!" A count began. "One! Two! Three!" Gayle's eyelids fluttered, and her feet

slid on the mat. "Four!"  Gayle's eye flashed open wide. "Five!" She rolled over. "Six!" She pushed up and got to her feet by the nine count. She looked out at her husband in despair. The referee checked her. She insisted she could go on, but she could barely keep her legs under her. Anne quickly backed the wobbly wife back to the ropes. Gayle tried desperately to cover up. Frustrated, Anne dug three pounding fists to the side of Gayle's outer thigh. Gayle cried out. The referee backed her off, warning her to keep her shots above the waistline. Terry sneered. Anne was dominating his wife and winning every round. He saw no reason for her to go low. The bell rang. Gayle staggered to her corner, lucky to have made it through the round. She sat in her corner gasping for air, her chest heaving. She stared at Anne, who stood in her corner all smiles, posing to the crowd. Gayle was sure she was posing for Terry. Gayle's eyes narrowed. She was losing every round. Anne had left her lying. She had barely beat the count. If it had been a fight, Anne would have already won. Gayle's jaw clenched. She knew Anne was humiliating her. She knew she had to get into the match. She was ready to gamble everything by throwing caution to the wind and going all-out in an attempt to hurt Anne at any cost. She thought she had to prove she could hurt Anne. She had to.
The bell rang for round four. Gayle came out swinging wildly, catching Anne by surprise. Anne's far better footwork let her dance away backward. Then Anne went on the attack. If she thought she could put the wife on her heels, she was wrong. Gayle stood her ground, going punch for punch with the blonde, but Anne knew how to get past Gayle's defenses. She fired a wicked uppercut under Gayle's chin that sent the brunette's head back. Gayle clenched again to avoid going down, bringing more boos from the crowd. Desperate to get into the fight, Gayle caught Anne with a sneaky punch to her belly on the break. Anne cried, "Oh!" The referee warned Gayle, but Anne reflexively doubled over a little, leaving her open to Gayle's wild uppercut to the chin! Anne wobbled on weak ankles! The crowd roared! Gayle slammed her blue glove into Anne's face! Anne reeled on her heels until her back was on the ropes! Terry's eyes were wide in disbelief! Now it was Anne cowering and covering up, as Gayle pounded her body!

Anne angrily shoved Gayle off of her. Shaken and shocked, Anne fell back on instinct, throwing wide, tennis-style swings that Gayle easily blocked. Gayle drove her fist deep into Anne's belly, lifting the blonde up onto her toes! Anne cried, "OH!"  Gayle put all she had into a tremendous punch to Anne's face! The crowd erupted, as Anne went down! Terry was in shock! Gayle could barely believe it! Anne lie flat on her back with her arms apart, her eyes wide and blinking, looking up in shock as Gayle stood proudly over her. Gayle looked out at her husband with a wide smile. A count began. Anne immediately rose and was on her feet by the five count, but she had been down! Her pride was shattered! They engaged in an all-out slugfest for a few seconds until the bell. The referee had to pull them apart.
From her corner, Gayle looked out at her amazed husband with a triumphant smile. Her lips formed the word, "See?" Gayle had put Anne flat on her backside. Gayle won round four! Sitting on her stool in her corner, Anne's chest rose and fell as she breathed hard. She glared at the beaming wife. Anne was furious, but she was too smart to fall into Gayle's trap. When the bell for round five rang, Anne refused to engage in a reckless attack only to present an easy target for the brunette. She knew Gayle couldn't begin to match her footwork, so she backed away from Gayle's attacks. She danced around the wife, popping her face with short, quick jabs to soften her up. Gayle had one strategy and couldn't adjust. Anne did. Anne was the dominant woman in the ring and asserted herself as the aggressor, forcing Gayle into a defensive stance. She knew Gayle's moves and could overwhelm them. Wherever Gayle tried to defend herself, she left herself open to an attack somewhere else. Gayle was afraid of the face shots that had put her down, so she was keen to protect her face. That let Anne demolish Gayle's soft belly. Each time Anne dug her fist into Gayle's belly, Gayle let out cries of Oh! Oh! OH! with increasing volume. Anne took her time, defending herself while taking whatever Gayle would give her. The better athlete took more and more of the fight out of the young wife. Soon Anne was all over her opponent. Gayle's knees shook violently! Anne stepped in close and started driving fast, punishing fists deep into Gayle's vulnerable waist again and again! A tremendous uppercut sent

Gayle flying down to her back! Gayle was laid flat! Her eyes were closed! The count began! "One! Two!" Gayle's eyes fluttered open and her feet slid. "Four!" She rolled over, crawling to the ropes on her belly! "Six!" Her blue gloves pawed at the ropes as she pulled herself up at the count of eight. She beat the count, but she was on very shaky legs. A wild, tennis-style swing sent Gayle spinning down to her front with her lips on the top of Anne's shoe! Anne looked out at Terry and mocked his wife. She pointed at the downed brunette and asked, "Did you really think you could replace me . . . with THIS?" The crowd went wild for Anne. Again, Gayle dragged herself up on the ropes, barely beating the count. Anne came in, but Gayle was saved by the bell. Anne won round five and almost ended the fight.
Gayle collapsed onto her stool in her corner, gasping and wheezing for air. Her arms drooped limply by her sides. She was in terrible trouble, and she knew it. She saw Anne leaning out through the ropes over her husband and knew she was mocking her. Gayle wanted to tear into Anne, but she knew she had to focus on getting through the next round. She desperately need to protect herself long enough to pull herself together. It killed Gayle to admit it to herself, but she knew if she tried to fight Anne toe to toe, Anne would finish her. Gayle spent round six just trying to survive it. She tried to protect herself, but Anne was too strong and too much. Gayle turned her back, ran, covered up and cowered. She clenched repeatedly to keep Anne off of her. The crowd booed her, but it was all she could do. Anne was relentless, and Gayle had nowhere to hide. A brutal fist driven deep into Gayle's belly sent her collapsing slowly to her hands and knees. Gayle sprinkled the mat with her spit as she tried to breathe. Anne stood over her, patting Gayle's cheeks with her foot while taunting, "Get up! I've got more for you!" Gayle looked out at her husband with tears in her eyes and forced herself to stand. She took more punishment, but she survived the round.
Gayle sat in her corner letting out wheezing sobs. She had challenged Anne to fight her. Gayle wanted to prove to her husband that she was the better woman. Now, she knew she wasn't. She had stepped into the ring believing she had to win. She knew she couldn't. Anne was simply

too much for her. Gayle knew she couldn't win, but she had one last chance to prove herself. She had to be on her feet at the final bell. She had to prove she could go the distance with her husband's dream girl. Gayle was determined to be on her feet at the final bell, even if Anne put her in a hospital. No one in the club believed she could do it. Even her husband didn't think she had a chance. Gayle was determined to prove them wrong.
Round seven began. Gayle could barely find the strength to stand and walk out from her corner. Her arms seemed to weigh tons. Anne looked at her with an arrogant, sneering grin. She was sure that Gayle was finished. Anne was getting tired too, but though now flat footed, she was still far too fast for Gayle. Anne wickedly pressed the palm of her glove over Gayle's face and pushed her face away, taunting her. Heartbroken, Gayle threw a wild punch. Anne merely took it and almost punched Gayle off her feet. Gayle let out a loud sob, unable to hold back tears. She clenched again to avoid going down. Cheek to cheek, Anne taunted her, saying, "You know Terry's watching me humble you. You know he loves it! This proves everything he always believed about us was right! He knows that I'm ten times the woman you are!" Gayle shoved Anne off. She threw another desperate, wild swing. Anne blocked it and drove another shot into Gayle's body. She followed up with a right cross that sent Gayle down to her front. Anne stood
over her, taunting, "Get up." The count was on. Gayle crawled to the ropes and tried to pull herself up. Her legs seemed almost useless. She looked out in tears at her husband. He pleaded, "Stay down!" She shook her head. Her trembling lips formed the words, "I can't." She was on her feet, but her gloves seemed too heavy to lift. Her arms dangled by her sides. Arrogant Anne could have finished her then and there, but instead she toyed with her, giving insulting pops to her face. Gayle was saved by the bell.
Obviously, Anne won another round, but at this point it didn't seem to matter. Gayle collapsed and crawled on her hands and knees to her corner. The referee should have already stopped it, but both the crowd and Anne wanted it to go on, and there was no quit in Gayle. Terry

had seen enough. He grabbed a towel from a bench to throw in the towel. Gayle turned to him in tears and cried, "Don't you dare!" Gayle simply refused to admit defeat to Anne. All that mattered to the young wife was to make it to the final bell.
The bell rang for round eight. Gayle had to put everything she had into just getting back up. Tears rolled slowly down her cheeks. Anne said, "Aw, poor baby! Nobody feel sorry for you. You wanted this. YOU challenged ME, remember?" Anne was only a few hard blows away from ending the fight, but she wanted to shame the mousy wife who had dared to challenge her. Anne cupped her glove behind Gayle's neck and walked her out to mid ring so that they faced Terry. Anne teased, "She's pathetic, isn't she?" Gayle screamed in rage and fired her elbow back into Anne's gut! It was an illegal move, but it caught Anne off guard! As Anne staggered back, Gayle spun and fired two hard fists into the shocked blonde's belly! The crowd went wild, as Gayle put all her heart into a desperate comeback! Anne had her chance to finish Gayle off but had chosen to humiliate her instead, and she was paying for it! Gayle gave Anne everything she had left! Anne snarled and fought back! Terry was on the edge of his seat as his wife and his dream girl fought it out toe-to-toe! Anne was too much. She soon had Gayle crying out in both physical and emotional agony, as the blonde overcame the brunette. Gayle was out on her feet. Anne pinched her gloved fingers around Gayle's chin, drew her other fist back, and then Anne punched Gayle's lights out. Gayle crashed to her back like dead weight. Gayle lie spread eagle, her eyes closed and her mouth open but silent. She was motionless, out cold. The referee slowly counted Gayle out. Anne grinned wickedly at Terry. She posed with her foot on his helpless wife's chest and raised her hands in absolute victory. Cheers filled the room. Terry's dream was far too much for his wife. The total knockout won by a total knockout. Gayle was carried out of the ring, still out cold.
The next day, Gayle was a mess. She was spotted with black and blue bruises from the waist up. She had a tremendous shiner under one eye. The other was black and swollen almost completely shut. She was forced to accept the truth. The girl her husband couldn't have was the

girl she couldn't beat. She couldn't even go the distance with her. Gayle didn't get her "Rocky" moment, but she had one small moral victory. Terry had said she couldn't last three rounds against Anne. Anne insisted she'd take her out in two. Gayle had made it into the eighth round. She beat everyone's expectations. Still, Gayle had been completely defeated.
It might have seemed like Gayle's heart and pride could never mend, but a couple of nights later while her husband lie sleeping, she crept to his phone. She knew he had taken pictures of the fight. She found only one picture from their fight remained. A trembling smile spread over Gayle's lips. The only picture from that night on his phone was a picture of Anne lying sprawled out on her backside at his wife's feet as Gayle stood triumphantly over her. It was the only picture he had saved. That was the image of her he wanted. That meant more to Gayle than he could have imagined.
