One summer when I was about eight a neighbor family, the Zimmer’s, and our family went on a camping trip together. It was a fun time. We didn’t sleep in tents, we rented cabins that had like a park in between them. We could look out our window and see the Zimmer’s waving at us from their cabin window. Almost exactly in the center of the park was a fire pit. After us kids went to bed our parents had some late nights sitting around the fire pit talking. Mrs. Zimmer jerked mom hard and she lost her footing in the wet grass. Mom landed hard and Mrs. Zimmer fell on top of her.

Mrs. Zimmer stood up, she was breathing heavy. Then she pulled mom up by her dark hair gave her a hard slap and than a second one and twisted her arm behind her back and escorted her into their cabin. When dad came back in we asked what all the noise was about, he said,”Your mother is spending the night at the Zimmer’s and their kids are sleeping here tonight.”
The next day it was noon before we saw mom. She had some scratches and red mark on her face that looked like Mrs. Zimmer’s hand print. And when she walked she had a funny limp like her underwear was too tight. Mr. Zimmer was walking funny as well.
