There was this girl a few years ago at the high school where I teach English who was a bit on the homely side and often the victim of girl bullies. Her name was Greta and she was only about 5'5" and 115 pounds on a heavy day. This girl had literally been called every name in the book and must've been beat up a dozen times. I'm not even sure she could fight. You name it . . . fat girls, athletes, younger girls . . . literally gads of girls could claim that they kicked this girl's ass.
But one day at a bowling alley some barmaid told her to get out of a small pool room. The blonde practically yelled at poor Greta who was standing a foot at the most inside her pool room. It was a bar that had a few pool tables and it was in a recessed area in the bowling alley.
Greta didn't hear the woman at first so she yelled, "Did you hear me you ugly little retard, get your bony ass out of here."
The blonde woman was about twenty-five and clad in ripped jeans and sleeveless shirt. I'd seen her before and knew that she was sorta into the biker scene. She was about 5'4" and 110 pounds and very pretty. The place was kind of a redneck place and I expected the woman was pretty tough. I was a few alleys down bowling my ass off and doing pretty crappy.
Greta was steamed and embarrassed. I overheard the commotion but kept on trying to boost my anemic score. I bet it wasn't ten minutes later that I heard a couple people shouting. This time I walked over and and saw a red-faced Greta emerging from the ladie's restroom. Another girl was holding the door open. I happened to peek in and see the woman lying spread-eagled on her back near one of the stalls. Another women soon helped her to her feet.
The blonde teetered a bit and then looked right at me. Before moving away and ceasing my little "Peeping Tom" act, I saw that her mouth and nose were bloodied. The other woman handed her a rag and told her to tilt her head back.
I don't know what got into Greta that day but she kicked that woman's ass. Greta, the girl who had probably never won a fight, had obviously flipped her lid at the indignant tirade the woman gave her. She, subsequently, followed her into the restroom and beat the crap out of the older blonde woman. Not that the woman looked like much of a fighter. The average high school girl would've mopped the floor with her, and any number of the fat girl bullies I often write about would've half killed her in a fight, ripped her to pieces and had her for a light snack--if they didn't put her through a wall first. But this was Greta. Amazing.
