UMMA -
Fantasy Female FightingEvent: To The Death
Where: Hamilton, Ontario
After a little vacation for the Easter holiday, the
UMMA (
http://ummafff.x10.mx/) is back, and the action could not be hotter. With four titles on the line, the latest edition of
Total Knock Out is jam packed with sizzling combat and behind the scenes intrigue.
After taking her welterweight title back from System Crash's
Megan Fox a few months ago,
Cheryl Cole, of the RWB stable, has been showing the kind of dominance we've come to expect from her. However, the ILF's
Catrinel Menghia is one tough customer. Though she's come up empty against Cheryl in the past, Catrinel is always a threat in the cage. Was she able to wrestle the belt away from Cole, or did the experienced champion take the hardware back home with her once again?
Meanwhile, it was an all RWB matchup for the super heavyweight title, as
Peta Todd faced of against
Gemma Atkinson. In a division that is, uh... top-heavy with RWB talent, the women have been taking turns destroying each other. Though Peta has defeated Gemma in the past, she's never managed to pull it off when the title was on the line. Would this be the night she broke through? Regardless, this one promised to be a fight for the ages.
Then, of course, there's my stable, RSI. With two title matches at this event, we certainly had our hands full. In the past, Vassago's
Nadine Coyle has throughly dominated RSI's
Tiffany Mulheron, including a horribly one-sided match at the 2013
Gauntlet event (TKO magazine issue
#68) that left Tiffany bloodied and destroyed in the center of the octagon. But, that was before she came to RSI. The road back from that terrible night has been long and difficult, but we've been with her every step of the way. With help from her new teammates, Tiff somehow managed to overcome her demons and finally grab the featherweight title away from Nadine when they met at
Seek & Destroy (TKO
#98). Now, Coyle is back with a vengeance. Did she take the title back, or did the blond beauty manage to retain her hard earned championship? These two women truly hate each other, so, either way, you know this one was a war.
Speaking of wars, the battle is always intense when RSI's
Emily VanCamp meets up with the ILF's
Irina Sheik. Irina had been the lightweight champion for as long as anyone could remember, and there didn't seem to be anyone that could challenge her. For years, many had tried, but all had failed. Then, came Emily. Like the others, Em had suffered at Irina's hands (and feet) in the past. But, there's no quit in this girl. She fought like hell to up her game and make herself a threat to Irina, and the hard work paid off as she FINALLY broke through and unseated the champion at the
On Thin Ice event this past September (TKO
#92). Shocked (and totally pissed off) Irina came right back and reclaimed the crown at
Seek & Destroy in January (TKO
#98), and the two have gone back and forth ever since. Though these women hold nothing back in the cage, they also seem to have developed a mutual respect that's surprising, considering they spend most of their time beating the living hell out of each other. How did the latest matchup turn out? Was Emily able to take the title back, once more?
Then, of course, there's
Jennifer Stano. A few weeks ago, RSI's relatively inexperienced fighter shocked the world at the
Hit the Beach tournament (TKO
#101) with her first round knockout of the legendary
Doutzen Kroes. As stunning as it was, at the time it seemed like little more than a golden feather in Jen's cap. After all, the ranking difference between Stano and Kroes was enormous. Surely, it would be years before the two met up again. Then, the updated rankings came out. Jen's win sent her shooting up the chart, landing her fourth in the division. That, combined with injuries to the second and third ranked fighters, put Jen in line to face the ILF's team leader once more. The rematch was on, and Kroes was salivating over the chance to take her revenge. Did the legend even the score? Or, did the new girl somehow manage to pull off the impossible one more time?
As if all this wasn't enough, the tension within the RSI stable has been running high since the events surrounding
Stephanie McMahon at
Final Conflict (see TKO
#102 and
#103 for details). Though Stephanie is still with us, the situation is far from settled. And the most unsettled member of the group has been team leader
Danneel Harris. The RSI family is as important to Danni as it is to me, and the this thing has been eating away at her. I finally decided that she and I needed to meet and sort through it all. How did it work out?
Trust me... you won't believe it
until you read it. (
