Sometimes a facial wound occurs by accident in the heat of battle.

Other times it happens by design.

Either way, the effect can be serious: depending on where the cut opens, a catfighter's vision or breathing may be compromised.

And, of course, the damaged area gives her opponent a target to exploit.
