[Glamour Fights]

This movie feature two fights between Alena Johnston playing Antiope and Sabine Sun playing Orytheia. The movie itself was not very good and the quality of the DVD available is also not of the highest quality. But the two fights are very good in my opinion. The participants are:

Orytheia (Sabine Sun)l	Antiope (Alena Johnston)
15 April, 1940, Antibes, France	1949 in ?
33 years old at filming	24 years old at filming

Their heights, weights and measurements are not known by me but they seem to be very close in all categories.


The first fight is actually a wrestling match in front of spectators. After several athletic competitions to qualify Orytheia and Alena wrestle with the winner becoming queen of the Amazon tribe. There is a definite winner who is crowned queen. The fight is topless with loincloths.

The second fight is an all out catfight with punching, a knee to the gut, hairpulling and scenes of domination. It is done in the nude. It takes place in the private room of Antiope where Antiope challenges Orytheia to settle things between them like they did when they were children “by bare hands” and not swords or spears.  The fight in the DVD I have ends with one dominating the other but doesn’t show a conclusion. I have seen a clip where the dominant one leans down and kisses the subservient one and I have seen a image of this. But I can’t find either. However I think the video clips shows that one of them ends up dominating the other even though the fight could presumably go on.

Thanks Neslo. I knew I had saw he ending to the catfight somewhere. I found the dailymotion clip for the wrestling match but didn't include it because you have to register to see it. I didn't find the dailymotion clip for the catfight. Too back that clip doesn't start at the beginning of the fight but at least it shows the sensual part.

My impression is that the blonde is a soft kind of fighter and would stand no chance against the evil-looking brunette. Don't know whether I'm following the old movie cliche where the dark-haired women are usually pictured as the villain and dirty fighters who ultimately often lose to the good-hearted blonde opposition heroines

I would have to agree that what you said is the way the two characters have been cast for the most part. I wouldn't exactly call Antiope a soft fighter but certainly one to fight more sportingly.  The expressions on Orytheia's face seem to indicate she is crueler and even gloating when she has Antiope at a disadvantage. Antiope is the one who throws the first punch as far as I can tell but Orytheia uses most of the dirty tricks. I think it is also suggested in the movie that Antiope is smarter or at least cleverer than Orytheia. Whether Orytheia ultimately loses to Antiope is an open question and not necessarily born out by the fights.

I was wrong. On closer inspection it is Orytheia that gets in the first punch. But Antiope quickly returns fire with a couple of good shots of her own.

I doubt if a fight in a remake would be as good. As barbosa says "It’s chorography, but it’s so obviously that they know the moves and the grips, although it was a B-movie. At this age the directors didn’t pay attention to details, the advisors and the specialist trainers were unknown." Today they would insert stunt doubles too often. Worse yet, these are "warriors" so the modern style is to have phony martial arts fights which I find so non-entertaiing and uninteresting. Just look at the way fights have progressed in every remake of Charlie's Angels. It is probably why the latest TV series didn't last as long as a blink of the eye.
