As wave after wave of Luftwaffe bombers turned New York to ash, Wonder Woman desperately battled the Nazi Amazon, Ava, on the rooftops.  Their clash echoed the explosions below; it shimmered in the firestorm.

Diana fell, again and again, sobbing, the blonde superwoman as relentless as the coming night. When she was longer able to rise, Ava lifted her, drove her down, then collared her with her golden lasso....and lifted her, broken, for a final time.....
