TI know its trashy and female exploitive but I wonder if the fighters are really going at it not play acting as some knee strikes etc don't look pulled like in  pro wrestling

It may be all that, but it's still fun to watch.

However, somebody needs to put a sock in the mouths of the two "common taters."

OK, let me state up front that this is not a conversation I would've imagined myself adding my two cents to even as recently as a few months ago.  Because it is as you said... LFC is trashy and exploitative.  Exploitative is something I've made my peace with, but the quality of the early "fights" was god-awful.  You could clearly see strikes going nowhere and the grappling was just a bunch of rolling around.  It was bad, and I had zero interest.  But these LFC videos pop up so often, they're practically impossible to avoid.  And - almost by accident - I've started to notice the realism is going up.

To answer your question, I do not think the women are really going at it.  But I do think they're finally getting some training. Take the first video as an example.  Those knee strikes around the 0:40  second mark... if you look closely, you can see she's hitting her own elbow with those.  But that's my point... in the early videos, you didn't have to look closely.  The women really didn't know what they were doing, and you could spot the fighting as fake from a mile away.  But both fighters here have had a little training.  The woman on top knows how to put some force behind those knees while still keeping things safe, and the woman on the bottom has been taught how to sell it a little.  Are they award-winning performances?  No, but it's a lot better than that early stuff.

The LFC is the last company I would have expected to make the actual fighting entertaining, but who knows?  If they keep moving in this direction, it just might happen.

Very interesting comments from FistFightinRichelle.

I totally agree with her that these fights are not "real."  It has always appeared to me that these fights are somewhat like pro wrestling.  They are staged for the audience's entertainment.  That's not to say pro wrestlers aren't athletic, because they clearly are.  And the girls doing the LFC also appear to have some athleticism.  But I'm not sure the people who go to LFC matches are seeking real fighting skills, like mma or ufc.  I may be wrong, but I believe most fans are there to see two attractive, scantily clad women, do a roll around.  And that's what they get.

I'm not sure I agree with the exploitation aspect.  Maybe it is, but I can't help but think the women who do the LFC matches do them willingly, and they know what they're getting into.  I might be way out in left field on this, and if I'm wrong, I humbly apologize.  Women who fight in mma or ufc are professional fighters, trying to win, and they are not doing it so some horny guys can salivate watching them.  I believe that most women who fight for real in mma or ufc understand there is that element who watch them to get aroused, but that's not why they fight.  But in LFC, I believe a woman would have to be totally clueless to believe the audience, especially the men, were there to see first class fighting skills.

This is just my 2 cents worth, and I am not an expert on mma, ufc, or LFC.  If I'm wrong I'm sorry and I hope I haven't offended anyone.

I actually agree with all of this.  Exploitation wasn't really the right word.  Maybe sexualization is better?  The point I was trying to make is that LFC pretends to be about fighting when it's really about the... uhm... horny salivation... that you described.  But the fact is that they don't pretend very hard, and the women involved know exactly what the score is.  Hell, they play into it with no reservations whatsoever.  So, point taken.

That said, I think that's actually why I'm so surprised by the improvements.  Because the "Fighting" has always been second to the "Lingerie."  It's a little bit of a shock to see them trying to make it appear otherwise.

Also, I should go on record and state that I'm not trying to put down anyone who enjoys the LFC.  The fact that it's so popular tells you there are plenty of people out there who do.

One final thought on this thread: IMO, LFC is far more entertaining than pro wrestling, and that's NOT based on how the women are dressed.  It's based on the level of action and the perceived intensity.  They do a much better job of selling realism than pro wrestling, which is so staged that I find it downright boring.

I hope you are not referring to prowrestling from the '80s and earlier, because those women really knew how to sell a fight.  Far better today than the gymnastic exhibitions that the girls put on today.  IMO, the best catfights ever were performed by the great heels and faces from the past in ladies pro wrestling.

I would agree that wrestling from the 80's and before was far more entertaining than the acrobatics in the WWE of today.  Frankly, I find current Indy matches far more fun than the WWE. Let me be clear, I'm not marginalizing the amount of work and effort that pro wrestlers dedicate to their trade, be they working the Indy circuit, the WWE or in years gone by.  Still in all, pro wrestling is staged, even those that are well-worked and well-sold.  While the choreography makes for a smooth, flowing match, it also detracts from any sense of realism.  Just my take.

I'm not what you would call a pro-wrestling fan, but I will always stop and watch if it's on TV...until the tide turns.

What astounds me, that in all the years I've watched it they have never had the angle of 2 women wrestlers fighting over a man.  It seems like a natural.

I so agree with Mouse about the 80's pro women. They were SO good.

Aloso  they were not model skiny lightweigts and, I suspect well over 30 years old but they stayed seriously athletic in thier ring moves - impressive
