Led2's posting of the catfight in the movie
Frenchie, made me think about movies that have been made and re-made. The first that comes to mind, of course is
Destry Rides Again (1939), followed by
Frenchie (1950) then
Destry (1954).
Again in 1939 came the movie
The Women,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZtyc_--tcc which was re-made in 1956 as
The Opposite Sex https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-qLrR4E-nE&t=8s. The fight in the original isn't bad, but doesn't measure up to the knock down, hair pulling, slapping classic in the second version. I have not seen the 2008 version, so I look forward to any input.
The opera Carmen has a catfight, and has been done in movie form:
The Loves of Carmen starring Rita Hayworth (1948) and
Carmen Jones starring Dorothy Dandrige (1954). I think that there have been European re-makes but haven't tried to find them.
Then there was
Reform School Girl (1957), where the two combatants fight outside in the field and wind up rolling around in the dirt until separated and the re-make
Reform School Girls (1986). I didn't find the fights in the remake nearly as interesting as in the original.
Those are all that come to my mind. What have I missed?
Another point: I can think of two movies where the original didn't have a fight, but the remake did. The original
One Million Years B.C. (1940) did not have a catfight, but fortunately the producers of the remake included the classic battle between Raquel Welch and Martina Beswick in 1966.
Also, the
Attack of the 50 Woman (1958) was void of a fight, but the 1995 satire
Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfold, had a very sexy battle between two gorgeous, scantily clad giantesses.
