hey Y;all- this is a note about KOs if anyone is interested.
Not sure if people know what a KO is. The essence of a KO is that the force of the punch actually makes the brain hit the bone walls of he cranium, and the shock makes parts of the brain shut down. prmanent damage to nevous system can happen. also residual damage can occur to boxers. Again in boxing (its what I know) and I think is some other combat based sports the KO is not only getting knocked out cold, but a fighter being unable to stand and defend for a full 10-count (in proboxing - shorter count in armature rules). so the boxer can be ..sort of.... awaake and jsut unable to stand. Technical knock outs are basically Ref stoppage.
Kos are required! often in cyber fights. IRL more fights are won by judge's decision than cold KO. It's an interesting to ask why unconscious KO are sexy to so many??
In the 1800 London Rules a 30-count was allowed after a knockdown! 30 seconds compared to 10 to get it together and get up. What a wimpy fight, right?
yeah BUT... those fights had no round limits, as is today 2 3-minute rounds per fighgt. Some of those prize fights went 40 rounds..some reported to go even 70 rounds, and it was barefist. Requiring gloves and other rules of modern boxing were devised to reform the brutality. People fought til they were beaten to mush, about literally, in some organized prize fights. I know I say too much in my posts. I did fight, and even have a personal ko. Gonna say -most of- what I want to.
The one nearly cold out ko I experienced was in judo sparing vs a black belt. I knew I could get out of a blood choke...that was ultra stupid and stubborn..that was foolish me then. my opponent knew I couldn;t get out. She was right. The inner wall of tissue in my right carotid collapsed into the artery tube = too much reduction in flow to brain = a stroke = for me 5 days in hosp. and 25% reduction in my vision. Not sexy.
