Separating boxing and fistfighting?
« on: April 23, 2025, 09:19:09 AM »
Apologies if this is a bit controversial but I wondered if the admins would consider separate sections for boxing stories and "fist fighting" stories please?

Writers like myself and DarkKnight9980 write stories about women boxing with gloves on in rings. Some people post stories about pre-planned fights in private homes ands gardens and I have no problem with that either.

But some post stories that are just catfights with bare knuckles in the same section, not what I would consider boxing at all. I think those stories belong in a separate section just as tit fighting has been separated from wrestling.

Our goal is to reduce the number of categories when we can, not increase them. Adding the non English section is likely the last section we would add.

There is no real distinction between boxing and fistfighting (both involve punching as a primary attack). And honestly splitting the two sections up serves neither section by making one slow section into two even slower sections. As it is the first page of the current section has stories from October which isn't exactly a feverish pace of stories being added.

Also i can see making a distinction between the two will be like a supreme court decision. Is taped fists using boxing rules boxing or fistfighting? What about a boxing tale of the bareknuckle days? So no we aren't going through that.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I understand the need to minimize the number of categories and I do think it's a shame that so many stories seem to end up in the wrong category (for example, watching your mother fight a random woman is not a 'family fight') but being an admin on a group this large must be hard work. Thank you again for your time and for all the work you do for us.

What about moving fist fighting to the NHB and moving the MMA to boxing?

That would likely piss everyone off. If the boxing fans are mad the fistfighters are there I sense they won't be anymore happy seeing the fistfighting kicking wrestlers (yes they wear gloves but a boxer is vastly different in skill set from an MMA fighter)

At this point all I can suggest is writers could put if it is a boxing or a fistfighting story in their title if they fear some purist of either won't take the ten seconds to figure out what story they are writing otherwise.
