From her years of watching Wednesday Early Dismissal chickfights out of her backyard window, and from observing the girls' actions and customs with each other, Kari knew that her daughter Sherry now faced 2 bad choices.

<> Sherry could stubbornly refuse to give to her enemy Brandi.  But in return, Brandi would relentlessly rain down slaps and scratches on Sherry's prone body, for as long as Brandi wanted to.
<> Sherry could, on the other hand, give to Brandi.  This would likely necessitate humiliatig pleading and begging.  Sherry would need to admit to Brandi what Pam was now demanding of Kari--an admission that Brandi was the better woman than Sherry.

Brandi.  Ewww.  A filthy, forthright, gold-digging homewrecker.  Admitting defeat to her was unthinkable.

Kari knew she needed to intervene.

> Brandi.
> [Brandi refuses to acknowledge Kari, and straddles Sherry even harder.]
> Brandi.  Get off my daughter.
> Or what, skank?
> Or I'll hit your mom.
> You wouldn't dare.  You know her shoulder is hurt.
> I sure do.

Kari squares up with Pam and unleashes a flurry of blows on her former friend.  Pam can tell from the anger on Kari's face that the attack is genuine, and tries to swing back, then parry, then swing back with her one healthy arm.

Pam's defenses are surprisingly futile.  Pam trips backwards onto the bedroom floor.  Kari mounts her, and turns to Brandi.

> So, bitch. NOW what?

Brandi slaps Sherry in the face.
Kari slaps Pam in the face.

> We can do this all day, honey.  If that's what you want.

The victory poses Kari and Brandi are locked in reminds Kari of one of the frustrating parts of her Wednesday Early Dismissal fight afternoon memories.  Around 4pm, those afternoon girl gatherings would adjourn abruptly, as parents would begin to arrive home from work.  If 2 girls were scheduled to fight that afternoon, but had never gotten the opportunity to begin because an "undercard" fight had run long due to an extended victory pose, either one that was playful (if the 2 competing girls were friends) or malicious (if the 2 competing girls were frenemies or rivals).

Watching outside to the backyard grass from her bedroom window, Kati would feel "cheated" of the chance to view a fight matchup she had been particularly looking forward to.

There were a couple of afternoons where Kari's desire to view a particular fight was so intense, as 3:30pm came and went, she was actually close to interfering in an in-progess fight which had exceeded its "sell-by" date--a fight which was in the state the Brandi-Sherry fight was now at.

Was that why Brandi wasn't releasing her hold on Sherry?  To prevent a new fight from erupting?  To prevent Brandi from now needing to face Kari?

Brandi had won this particular round with Sherry this morning.  But in doing so, she had exhausted herself, physically and emotionally.

And Brandi's mom Pam was unable to provide much backup to Brandi.

Kari wondered how she would do next in a fight against Brandi.
