Jerry " The King " Lawler
« on: September 11, 2012, 06:21:35 AM »
For those who might of heard , tonight on Monday Night Raw , about an hour or so before the end of the show , Jerry passed out at the commentators desk , believe he had a heart attack , luckily , EMS people were already out there just in case something happened to the wrestlers in the ring & quickly tended to him , put him on a stretcher , & took him in back where they continued to administer CPR to him , at last update as the show went off the air , he was conscious & responding to lights shined at him at the hospital .

Let's all hope & pray that the King gets better & no further problems occur.

Here's to the King , Get Well Soon Jerry

Damn I didn't notice that.  It was the last match I watched before I had to leave for work.  I was so busy getting ready for work I didn't really notice that just Cole was talking at the end.  I watched the youtube video of it.  Had not someone gave me a time reference on there where you can hear Cole say "Jerry talk to me" off mic and then you hear some bumping around when Jerry collapses you wouldn't have even noticed.  Literally 20 seconds before that Jerry is still talking and sounds normal.  Cole tries to call the match after that, but there are a lot of awkward pauses and even a section of silence.  You see Kane looking at the announcer table a few times and the fans and I think even the ref looks over there but WWE editing was careful not to show anything - as basically they do everytime something goes off script on live TV, which means they are on some sort of delay (I remember catching glimpses of drunk guys here or there rushing the ring to attack wrestlers).  One part in the youtube video you get a glimpse of Cole in the background by himself, which means they got Jerry out of there quickly.

I turned the TV off as soon as I saw the ending.  Did they make any kind of formal announcement at all after the match?

They made a few, Cole announced to the fans at home what had happened after the very next match, that it wasn't part of the show, gave a few updates throughout the rest of the show after that, and there was no commentary for the remainder of the night outside of the segment that followed the Kane/Bryan tag match out of respect for Lawler.

Man was it ever eerie to hear Jerry struggle to breathe as it all happened. He's lucky though.......I heard he was clinically dead for 20 minutes before they were able to bring him back to life at the arena with a defibulator. So he's lucky for sure to be alive this morning. I heard also he complained of chest pains over the weekend, probably should not have wrestled last night at all given that.

Does make me wonder if the wrestlers are still subject to medical exams before matches like the old days. I recall a few times where matches were changed because someone had an irregular heartbeat that day. Given the move away from sports to being entertainment I suspect the regulation by athletic bodies may also have loosened up.

Didn’t know, thanks for posting.  I gather he’s lucky it happened where help was right there.  Get well soon, King.  Recalling happier times:
