Rousey the Great, out in one punch! WOW
« on: November 17, 2015, 06:17:05 AM »
Rousey is great, and her loss has not upset that fact, though she is said to be devasted. Imagine how she felt,  kept overnight in a hospital bed for observation after suffering a ONE strike clean KO defeat! WOW!!

I am glad to be to have said in my previous post asking, asking if RR had become boring, that Holm could win this fight:though I did say I thought it unlikely.

One thing that deserves special note is how mature, and even hunble, Holly “the preacher’s daughter”, has been about her victory. Rousey had been trashing Miesha Tate, and was dismissive of Holm. What a chance for huge bragging from the one to KO her!!  Instead  Holm has been praising all her trainers and supporters. She has also recognized Rousey’s ability and all  she has done to bring WMMA into the spotlight. What a classy attitude from a woman who is now the first and only woman to hold both a world championship title in boxing and a world title in mma.  Holly has had the perfect response for the one who finally took  Rousey to a defeat. and OH YEAH is she ever hott..

I agree with the many who are saying,; Rhonda was largely the victim of the hype about her, and of her own ego in not respecting Holm, and figuring this would be another  fast win for her. Rousey is no boxer, though she has been training to sharpen her stand-up for the Holm fight.  She is not used to getting hit in the head, nor being taken past the first round. I wonder if Rousey didn’t get freaked and pissed, and that plus ego was the losing mix for her?  “Fight mad-fight stupid” is was I  got told,  and partly learned. Maybe Rousey getting hit so solid from the start got an “I’ll show YOU, nobody does that to ME!!!“ reaction from her, plus shaking  her focus. Why else would Rousey box a champion boxer with over 30 wins?

Holm always seems to me to have a reach like she is twice as tall as she is. She has a surprising ability to fight from the outside, picking her opponent apartf from outside and then moving away from counters. She also did such a beautiful job of moving around Rousey after a hit and firing from new angles. What could Rousey have done, really except get Holm down and wrestle?  Now Rousey should deal with it,  fight  Tate and Cris Cyborg, and Holm should also fight both of them. Imagine the the rematch when Rousey will be fighting Holm again to win back “her precious”.   We are heading for an interesting future in wmma contests.

Rhonda’s constant winning had gotten a bit boring to some. I wonder also if any think her domination of the bantamweight division , and her rep of invincibility, had become a sort of roadblock to the progress of women’s mma.  Holm and her sister fighters have defeated many roadblocks to WMMA going even stronger, and reminded everyone about the true champion’s spirt.  GO HOLLY!!

whats the old saying " the bigger they are the harder they fall"?

I still don't understnad why Rousey started the way she did. I'm no fighter but Holly was 34- 0 in boxing , taller and bigger reach. Why come out trying to out box her on your feet like Rousey did?  Maybe shes a great wrestler but not a  smart fighter?

That kick by Holly that KO'ed Rhonda was fabulous, Im sure it wil bea  classic MMA pic for years.

It's great for womens MMA but I hope Holly helps a bit with the hype neeeded to sell tickets in combats sports.
She is sure is  big in Albuquerque

I have spent some time in Albuquerque so I am a Holly fan a she trains there . I've actually been very close to her gym but never realised I might have been able to se her train if I asked nicely!

A small correction; her boxing record is 33-2-3, and one of her losses was a vicious knockout.

Still, she fought a brilliant fight and was full marks for her victory. I think this fight also pointed out how weak this division is - Holm, Rousey, maybe Tate and that is it. The rest? Punching bags and fodder for the UFC hype machine.

One more thing: I wonder why Rousey wasn't at the post-fight conference? I know she was knocked out, but so was Correira and she was at the conference. The cynic in me thinks White didn't want his face of MMA showing up looking like she must have after a brutal beating.

I think it was Ronda's choice not to face the fire after all the trash talking she did.

I don’t think this loss means that RR was not a great fighter. There were several factors for her defeat…

1-People emphasized her winning so quickly way too much. They constantly talked about just how many minutes it took her to win last 3 fights etc. Everyone was talking about how fast she was going to finish HH. RR rushed in to finish it as quickly as possible which was a big mistake.

2-Many people way overrated her boxing skills and that gave her a false sense of confidence. I think she badly wanted to beat HH in her own game to prove she was indeed a great boxer. That was a huge mistake.

3-“Everyone has a game plan until they are punched in the face”…when you get hit in the face so many times your judo/BJJ black belt becomes a white belt.

4-RR’s bread and butter moves were “hip toss” and then “arm bar” finish. HH specifically trained to defend against those 2 moves. At one point despite being hurt RR managed to take HH down and briefly got her back but immediately went for her signature move…the arm bar. The golden rule in grappling is “Position before submission” and I know she is not a one trick pony who only knows the arm bar. She could have secured her position first and then go for a rear naked choke etc. I guess, after being hurt and being so frustrated she could not think straight.

As for RR being a bitch, I think most of it is part of the show to sell more tickets…and it’s been proven to work. Connor Mac Gregor also acts like an ass and sells tickets, I don’t believe what he displays is his true personality either.

The reason RR didn’t show up at the post fight press conference may very well be because she was so disappointed, upset, depressed, and emotionally hurt. I don’t think it had anything to do with physical pain.

I watched the video and during one of the back and forth knee sessions Ronda had a chance to knee that pussy and take her down a few pegs but nooooo. I know it isn't fair but when you notice your outclassed then do what you can. RR has shitty sportsmanship anyways so wtf.
