Womens pro match - off script
« on: February 16, 2020, 04:07:38 PM »
As anyone know of or seen a women's pro wrestling match that went off script/rehearsed and became a real fight in the ring?

The one poor girl was hurt badly, the other I believe was banned or forcibly retired. The fight starts around 6:50 or so.

Absolutely, Mildred Burke's match from '54 is legendary for that. Sidelined in real life by her ex-husband, she founded a rival league and took on Byers, who was her former daughter-in-law. The genuine hate was palpable, even the DoJ got involved. The newspaper used the era-appropriate terminology of the "ladies needing a visit to the beauty parlor".

Most recently, in the AAA promotion in Mexico, Sexy Star tried to break Rosemary's arm. Sexy Star hasn't worked for a major company since then and lost a ton of top independent bookings. She's now fighting in Alberto el Patron's outlaw MMA promotion.

Going back a few decades, Wendy Richter really went after Fabulous Moolah after Moolah worked in a mask and the ref fast counted the pin to get the belt off Richter, whom Vince McMahon didn't want around anymore.

If anyone has a link to the Burke match, I'm really interested

I never want to see someone ever really get hurt, but I do like it when a match turns or as least is sold as very competitive.

Tv was in its infancy, I think there only existed a few short films for cinema, especially at an age where men went to war, personally I'm unaware if ever was digitized and came up empty on my search.

I think that June was married to Wolfe's son from a previous marriage, and Wolfe was Burke's second husband as well.  Burke accused June of sleeping with Wolfe in order to advance her career.  Imagine that.

One match that never happened, and would have had the same level of animosity would have been Moolah vs. Rita Cortez.  Very similar situation.

http://www.legacyofwrestling.com/BurkeByers.html I've read similar, but in her DoJ deposition, she (Burke) hasn't lost a word about that.

It's a shame, that in one of the best era of women's wrestling some stupid men and women (Moola) tired to ruin women's wrestling.

There would have been many more women in wrestling if Moola wasn't in the picture. She ran a monopoly on the women's wrestling scene from the late sixty's in the late eighty's

It wasn't really a full on "shoot" or anything like that, but there was a match from WrestleCircus between hotties Rachael Ellering and Christi Jaynes were they clearly got pissed with each other.
