I've always liked intensity, however there's a fine, but distinct line between intense and brutal. While intensity is a turn-on, brutality is a turn-off. At least for me. Therefore I've always been a fan of things like movie catfights, where the action appears real, but you know that nobody is going to be harmed. Wild, hairpulling, clothes tearing catfights like Marlene Dietrich and Una Merkel in Destry Rides Again set the standard in that category. Same with roller derby fights, particularly from the old days (1950's and 60's). The women in the Derby had no qualms about locking up, pulling hair and firing open fisted, pulled punches at each other. The fights looked very real, but were all staged. Also, there's something additionally exciting about these old fights being in black and white. Or maybe, that's just me showing my age. There were parts of the Crystal Video Magazine fights that I liked, because those fights were real and therefore very intense. On the other hand, when I find myself wincing at some of the activity, I know that it's time to fast forward. That's just my two cents. Good question.
