My favorite line: "Your fucking panties you dumb bitch... don't you trailer park tramps take the loser's panties as trophies when you win- of course, skanks like you probably don't even wear panties, do you?"
I’ve always liked the “rich bitch” character tropes. It’s fun to make them distasteful arrogant, mean, and condescending “heels.” And you can develop them further if you wish.
Another related thought:
It’s funny how Kelli has been called derogatory names like “redneck,” “trailer park trash,” and “cowgirl” by some of her opponents when she is actually a university educated, middle class suburban working mom.
I’m supposing it’s because Kelli has a down-to-earth style about her that reflects a deep appreciation and connection with traditional rural Texas culture - which gets looked down upon by her snotty rivals who misidentify it as low class (and they’re probably not native Texans).
Am I close?
It's prolly just ma accent...

Miss Kiva, you are too kind. I'm probably about 60% class, 40% trash most of the time. I was raised in a trailer by a single parent (on a 1 acre lot, not in a trailer park.

) after all, so I come by it honestly. For those unfamiliar with rural folk, we have a bit of a spectrum. On one end are "Country folk", these are the good people and they try to stay classy and wholesome. In the middle you got your "rednecks". Generally pretty good but you like to overindulge in the country fun on occasion... drinkin a little, ridin atv's, fishin'... basically like you're living a country song. On the other end of the spectrum, you have your "White Trash"... pretty much think of all the bad stuff that bad people do wherever you're from- the sleeping around, addictive and destructive behaviors, no ambition to better your lot in life, crime, etc. take all of that, dip it in canola oil, roll it in flour and deep fry it... voila! you have white trash.
I may have a little of all three in me... probably just like no matter where you're from, you most likely have, whatever those equivalents are in your culture, in you.
Obviously as a writer *spoiler alert* I like to play with this in my stories. Just as Heather assumes that I'm a trailer park skank, I assumed she was going to be an opinionated, know it all bitch. We were both a little right and a lot wrong. In my experience, people are a lot more interesting in real life than what we boil them down to based on the little we know about them individually and what we fill in from our experiences and/or preconceived notions. That said, it doesn't mean that people won't do those stereotypical things, but that's part of the fun- which of those things are going to be accurate and which are going to be completely different. This is a lot of what I really enjoy playing around with when I write. Some of y'all know that I usually have a lot more information and background about the characters in my notes than ever comes out during the stories. I try to use those notes to think through what and why they do what they do. If I actually had any literary skills or talent, I might be dangerous. lol.
I probably should have put this in the discussion thread... but I was feelin it
