Hey everyone,

I just joined this place mostly for the celeb subforum, I have a load of questions but I'll try and keep this as short as I can.

I was wondering why all the matches written here all follow the same pattern/rules/etc? I was wondering if there would be any interest in an alternative setup such as:

Alternative #1: FOUR rounds each lasting FIVE minutes, a point is scored for a pinfall or submission. The opponent with the most points after the 20 minutes wins. A knockout ends the match immediately.

Alternative #2: Less structured, point still awarded for pin or submission but there is no time limit or rounds. First to 3 wins. KO ends match immediately.

I'm making a simple wrestling simulator in Excel which can basically spit out a load of results with a little tinkering, but I don't really have the imagination or creativity most of the fantastic writers on here have. So I don't know, maybe I can find a way to contribute in some way.

Actually those weren't really questions at all were they? Ah well first time poster I'm a bit nervous.

LOVE the idea of a boxing/wrestling simulator.

Hope you'll put it on the internet for download when it's done (maybe get some people to tweak it a bit.

I've been working on a way to easily and quickly simulate boxing matches, which is based on Simguy's method which can be found here: http://fcbahistory.pbworks.com/w/page/4629363/Simguy%20Method Simguy just gives a brief overview of what he does to (essentially) create the outlines (or what he refers to as "fight reports") for a match between two fighters.

I've been adapting his methodology into an easily accessible Pen-and-Paper RPG format. The idea behind the simulation is that the specifics behind every little move and action in a match isn't that interesting to simulate. What's interesting is the flow and overall story of the fight, which we can simulate by determining who wins during different phases of a match. For example, let's say you have 3 minutes per round in a boxing match -- in this case you can break it down into three one-minute phases per round. All you're determining is who is "winning" during each of the phases, which helps create a general outline. As a writer, it's easy enough to fill in the blanks by using this outline to create some really exciting and interesting fights. In my experience, it's been a lot easier to have a "fight plan" already laid out for me, instead of having to come up with everything on the spot.

This is obviously a really watered down and simplified version of what the simulation does; it does account for things like injuries sustained over the course of a fight, knock downs, second winds, momentum shifts, fatigue, etc. As a writer, these help to shape the narrative that you are constructing without burdening you with coming up with everything from scratch.

That's WAY more detailed than what I was working on! Thanks!

All my 'sim' does is take age, height, weight and bmi into account. I did say it was pretty basic haha! Then it calculates the chances of victory as a percentage, followed by five randomly generated numbers from 100. The idea being the numbers deciding who pins who and how many times.

Having read that more detailed method posted earlier in this thread I feel a bit silly now, but at least I know what I can do to improve it.

You guys are aware that there are several fighting simulators out there that already do those things, right? :)

For example, I've been using the WMMA 3 sim (http://www.greydogsoftware.com/wmma3/index.php?page=screens) which lets you create database with custom fighters, and run your own league. The matches are simulated with text and are quite nice.
The amount of "stats" detail you can edit for each fighter is pretty insane, but makes it the best simulator around.
So far i've created a database with about 130 female celebs in it, and I'm almost done editing all of their stats. It takes a while to input all their info like heights, weights, age, and then decide their actual fighting skill \ styles, tons of sliders! :)

It's all in mma style, but they also have a similar simulator for wrestling (Wrestling Spirit 3).

This is how a random match looks like:
