Conversation about competing

It's curious to me how many women have expressed an interest to me in competing irl matches over the years...it will come up in conversation, sometime in the oddest of circumstances, but it doesn't appear that many ever follow thru with their inclination to compete. A few do end up participating in this hobby but generally, most just continue to fantasize about it. I assume it's because of worry of what others would  Think of them competing in arranged rule matches but these same women don't have that same worry about competing in other forms of physical activity like tennis, marathons, etc. it's no big deal just interesting to me..

We recently attended a pool party at my cousins house along with 12-15 other couples..three of us at the party have participated in arranged matches in the past, including my cousin and myself. While we don't broadcast this hobby at every opportunity, neither is it a secret...most folks we are friendly with know we compete and a few have even attended our matches. Anyway, it came up as a topic of conversation and several of the ladies present expressed an interest in knowing more about the process. Obviously, Several indicated they would never consider such an activity but I estimate 30%+ of the women were very curious about the matches. One has even reached out to my cousin since the party with more detailed questions..my point is that, I suspect there are more ladies interested in controlled arranged matches then you might think, many just are unsure how to get started in such activity....

Back when I was still dancing it came up more than people think. I wasn't the worst one for it either, but a few of the girls got really jealous and it would spill over sometimes. You'd hear the talk in the dressing room after a busy night, someone saying they wished they could just settle things properly instead of all the passive aggressive shit. Looking back though, a lot of it wasn't really about competing in any arranged way. It was more that they just wanted to really fight, get it out of their system. It was rare that anyone did anything about it though.

I definitely agree that more women are interested than let on. I have a group of women I workout with on weekends, mostly housewives just wanting to stay in shape. One or two know I wrestle, and the knowledge has slowly spread. And about 3 of the 7 gals have approached me with questions and shown deep interest.

Yes, I've had a few discussions with women I know who do not wrestle but appear intrigued by it. Even managed to convince one to try it with me.

I think there is still a social stigma associated with women competing boxing, wrestling, catfighting, etc.  But it is getting much lower.  I had a conversation with some friends and their wives/gf's at a bar one night about a catfight that had happened the night before (friend was a bouncer there) at the bar 25 years ago.  I would say the women were 3x as interested in and asked all the questions.  To be fair, I think all us guys were holding back so the women didn't think badly about us... at least I was.  The women were I think very titillated by the idea and I know at least 2 fought after that night.  I think it was very risque at the time. Now there are literally collegiate women's wrestling teams and pro women's MMA and Boxing.  I remember seeing one report on the news 5-6 years ago where the reporter was discussing how amazing wrestling is as a workout and without the social stigma there would be women's wrestling gyms in every neighborhood in the country.  We did get a membership about that time in a local boxing gym.  Maybe someday there will be more?

Yes, but it's sanctioned with rules acoording to city/county and/or state regulations. There is women's wrestling, but it's similar to boy's high school & college wrestling rules. Over 74,000 girls compete in high school wrestling across the United States. Girls' wrestling is the fastest-growing high school sport in the country, growing from just a few thousand participants a decade ago to major state-sanctioned status in dozens of states.
