Her bare foot came down on the top of my laced boot and ground it into the bank while the heel of her hand drove up under the forearm I had on her chin and forced it off. She turned her head with the yank I still had and sank her teeth into the meat of my shoulder, high near the neck, and held the bite while she punched my gut, short, twice. The bite let go and the pain stayed. Both of her hands hit my chest and shoved me backward onto the low bank. I had to catch myself on the mud and the roots. She followed me down. A knee dropped beside my hip and the punches came from above: one into the shut-eye side of my face, one into the mouth, one into the chest. My shoulder burned just watching her throw them. She grabbed the hair at the crown, pulled my head up, and slapped me across the pouring nose, open hand. Then the fist hit the cheek under the slit eye. Blood ran fresh over the old. She let the head drop and raked her nails down my stomach, slow, from the underside of my chest to the hip, and dug in at the end. She hooked an arm under my near shoulder and rolled me toward the water. Cold hit my back and the side of my face. From that angle she punched the ear that has been bleeding, twice, then the body. She stayed on a knee beside me. She took the hair again. The right came down into the open side of my face. I am as destroyed as she is. Nose still pouring. Eye shut. Other eye a slit. Shoulder throbbing where she bit. Gut tight. Ear wet. Arms heavy. Legs shaking. She is still measuring for the mouth. I am still here.

I get the hand closest to the water and I scoop a handful of mud and creek grit and I fling it upward into her face, right at the eyes and the bloody nose. It is not a punch. It is dirty and it buys me the second. I twist onto my side under the knee she has beside me and I drive my elbow backward into her ribs, the same side she has been punching, hard as my exhausted arm will let me. Once. Again. I do not try to stand clean. I grab the ankle of the bare foot she used to stomp me and I yank it toward the water so she has to catch her weight. My other hand finds her hair, low and tangled, and I pull her head down toward the bank while I am still half under her. I punch upward from the ground into her chest, once, weak and mean. Then I shove her shoulder with everything left in me and I roll the other way, toward the leaves, putting a body length between us for the first time in a while.

I get to a knee. It takes too long. My good eye is full of the grit I just threw and my own blood. I wipe it with the back of my wrist and it does not help much. From the knee I lunge the short distance and I tackle her at the waist, shoulder into her midsection, arms wrapping, and I drive her backward into the wet leaves. We go down together. I end up half on top. I do not posture up high. I stay heavy and I punch from close: one into the side of her head, one into the body, one into the cheek. My knuckles are split. The punches are slow. They still land. I grab a fistful of blonde and I hold her face toward me so she cannot turn into the dirt. I am gasping through my mouth. Blood is running off my chin onto her. I draw the right back one more time from this close range, arm shaking, and I throw it at her mouth. We are both finished. Neither of us is stopping. I keep the hair. I stay on her. The fight is still even and I am still brutal with nothing left. Yt

The handful of mud and creek grit hit me in the face, eyes and nose, and for a second I could not see clean. It bought her the twist. She got onto her side under the knee I had beside her and the elbow drove backward into my ribs, the side that has been taking them all fight. Once. Again. She grabbed the ankle of my bare foot and yanked it toward the water so I had to catch my weight. Her other hand found my hair, low and tangled, and pulled my head down toward the bank while she was still half under me. The punch upward from the ground landed in my chest, weak and mean. Then the shove on my shoulder and the roll put a body length between us. She got to a knee. It took her time. From the knee she lunged and tackled me at the waist, shoulder into my midsection, arms wrapping, and drove me backward into the wet leaves. We went down together. She ended up half on top. She did not posture high. She stayed heavy and punched from close: one into the side of my head, one into the body, one into the cheek. She grabbed a fistful of blonde and held my face toward her. The right from that close range went at my mouth and landed. Blood is running from my nose into the grit on my face. It is not broken. It is just pouring again. My ribs are tighter from the elbows. My bare foot is twisted from the yank. My arms are heavy. My legs are shaking. One eye is swelling and full of dirt. I am as destroyed as she is. She is on me again. I am not staying under her.
I turn my face hard into the leaves so the next close punch does not sit flush, and I drive my forehead up into her chin from underneath while she is heavy on me. It jars her. I get the hand she does not have controlling and I dig my nails into the wrist that has my hair, twisting until the fistful loosens. I do not try to stand. I bridge with what is left in my hips and I roll us toward the stream, using the slick leaves, and I come through half on top of her this time. Cold water touches my knee. I stay low the way she stayed low. I punch from close: one into the shut-eye side of her face, one into the mouth, one into the chest. My shoulder burns. They are slow. They land.

I grab her platinum at the roots with the hand that just broke her grip and I hold her head against the wet ground. With the other I rake across her stomach, the same path she has felt before but shorter, meaner, and I dig in at the hip. I shift my weight so my knee pins the arm closest to the water. I am gasping through my mouth. Blood and grit are on my tongue. I draw the right back from this tight range, arm shaking, knuckles split, and I throw it down into the open cheek. We are both finished. Neither of us is stopping. I keep the hair. I stay heavy on her. The fight is still even and I am still brutal with nothing left. I measure one more for the hinge of her jaw. Her forehead came up into my chin from underneath and jarred the weight I had on her. The nails dug into the wrist that held her hair and twisted until the fistful loosened. She bridged and rolled us toward the stream on the slick leaves and came through half on top of me. Cold water touched my side. She stayed low and punched from close: one into the shut-eye side of my face, one into the mouth, one into the chest. Slow. Heavy. They landed. She grabbed my platinum at the roots and held my head against the wet ground. The rake across my stomach dug in at the hip. Her knee pinned the arm closest to the water. The right came down into the open cheek. She kept the hair. She stayed heavy. She was measuring for the hinge. I am as destroyed as she is. Nose pouring. One eye shut. The other a slit full of blood and grit. Shoulder bitten. Ear bleeding. Arms barely answering. Legs shaking. She has been the one on me more than I have been on her for most of this. I try anyway.

I get the free hand up and push at her shoulder. It moves nothing. I turn my face into the mud so the next one does not sit flush. Blood runs out of my mouth into the leaves when I do it. I try to buck. My hips lift an inch and drop. The arm she has pinned strains and stays pinned. I reach for her hair and get strands I cannot close my hand around. A sound comes out of me that is not words. My good eye waters so badly I can barely see her above me. I claw at her forearm one last time. The nails drag and stop. I do not have another punch. I do not have another knee. I am under her at the edge of the water with my head held and my face open.
The one she measured lands. It crashes into the hinge of my jaw. My head rocks against the mud. Everything narrows. I try to lift the free hand again and it does not leave the ground. Another one comes down on the open cheek. I feel it. I do not answer it. She still has the hair. She is still heavy. The clearing goes quiet except for the stream and her breathing. My slit eye stops tracking. My mouth is open and full of blood and nothing else. I am not swinging anymore. I am not holding on. There is nothing left to do. She has me. She has had me. This is the end of it. Yt

The push at my shoulder was weak but it was still there. She turned her face into the mud and blood ran from her mouth, and that turn kept the next shot from sitting perfect. The buck barely lifted her hips, but she tried it. The pinned arm strained against my knee. She got strands of my hair she could not close her fist around, and the claw on my forearm dragged even if it had nothing behind it. A sound came out of her that was not words, but she was still making it. She is destroyed. One eye shut. The other a slit. Nose pouring. Mouth split. Arms heavy. Legs shaking. Same as me. She is not done. She is still under me trying. I feel it. I do not have her finished.

I keep the hair and I throw the right I had ready. It lands on the hinge, heavy, and her head rocks, but she turns with it instead of going limp. I hit the open cheek. Blood jumps. She claws at my wrist while I do it, weak, still clawing. I punch the mouth. She spits blood to the side and the hand that is free pushes at my hip. It does not move me. It is still a push. I slap her across the nose, open hand, and she jerks her head. I close the fist and crack the cheek under the slit eye. She answers with a short, tired punch into my ribs from underneath, nothing clean, enough that I feel it. I take the hair with both hands and I slam her head toward the mud. She gets an elbow up on the way down and it clips my chest. Not finished. Still in it.

I shift my weight and she uses it. A knee comes up along my side, slow, and brushes my ribs. I punch down anyway: cheek, body, mouth. She turns her face between them so one scrapes instead of sitting flush. Her free hand finds my forearm and holds on. I elbow the side of her head from close. She grunts and rakes her nails across my stomach. We are both gasping. Both pouring blood. Both too spent to end it clean. I stay heavy on her. I draw another right back, arm shaking, and I throw it at the open side of her face. She is still moving under me. I am still swinging. No one has this. Not yet. Yt

The right she had ready landed on the hinge and my head rocked, but I turned with it. The one on the open cheek made blood jump. I clawed at her wrist while she hit me, weak, still clawing. The punch to the mouth landed and I spat blood to the side. My free hand pushed at her hip and did not move her. The open-hand slap across my nose made me jerk. The closed fist cracked the cheek under the slit eye. I answered with a short tired punch into her ribs from underneath. She took the hair with both hands and slammed my head toward the mud. I got an elbow up on the way and it clipped her chest. She shifted and my knee came up along her side, slow, and brushed her ribs. The punches came down anyway: cheek, body, mouth. I turned my face so one scraped. My free hand found her forearm and held on. The elbow to the side of my head from close made me grunt. I raked her stomach. She stayed heavy. The last right hit the open side of my face. I am as destroyed as she is. Nose pouring. One eye shut. The other a slit full of blood. Mouth split. Arms heavy. Legs shaking. She is still on me swinging. I am still under her moving. No one has this.
I use the forearm I am holding and I yank it downward while I drive my forehead up into her chest from below. It jars her weight. I twist my hips hard to the side she is not pinning as clean and I get the knee that brushed her ribs up higher this time, into her side, slow and mean. My free hand lets go of her arm and grabs a handful of blonde near the scalp. I pull her head toward the leaves. I punch upward from my back into her body, once, then again, nothing pretty, both of them landing because she is as exhausted as I am. I do not try to stand. I bridge one more time with what is left and I roll us half a turn so I am no longer flat under her. Cold mud hits my shoulder. I end up on my side facing her.

From there I shove her shoulder with both hands, weak but enough to make space, and I throw a short right at her cheek while we are still tangled. It lands. Blood comes off her lip. I claw across her chest with the other hand and I hold the hair so she cannot just roll back on top clean. I am gasping through my mouth. She is gasping. I draw one more punch back from this side position, arm shaking, and I throw it at her body. We are both finished and neither of us is stopping. I keep the hair. I stay in the fight. It is still even. I am still brutal with nothing left. Yt

She yanked the forearm she was holding downward and drove her forehead up into my chest from below. It jarred the weight I had on her. She twisted her hips to the side I was not pinning clean and got the knee higher this time, into my side, slow and mean. It sat. Her free hand let go of my arm and grabbed blonde near the scalp. She pulled my head toward the leaves. The punches upward from her back landed in my body, once, then again, nothing pretty, both of them getting there because I am as exhausted as she is. She bridged and rolled us half a turn. I was no longer flat on her. Cold mud hit us both. She ended on her side facing me. From there she shoved my shoulder with both hands, weak, enough to make a little space, and the short right hit my cheek. Blood came off my lip. She clawed across my chest and held the hair so I could not just roll back on top clean. My nose is bleeding into the grit still on my face. Ribs tight from the knee and the upward punches. Arms heavy. Legs shaking. One eye swelling. Same as her. She is still in it. So am I.
I rip my head against the pull and I drive my shoulder forward into her chest while we are both on our sides in the mud. It closes the space she just made. I get my free hand on the wrist that has my hair and I dig the nails in, twisting hard until the grip breaks. I do not let the wrist go. I yank her arm across her body and I punch with the other hand, short, into the side of her head, then into the mouth. Blood strings. I hook my leg over hers so she cannot roll me clean the way she just did, and I use it to turn us so I am the one half on top again. It is not pretty. My knee slips in the leaves. I make it stick.

From there I stay low and heavy. I punch the shut-eye side of her face. I punch the body. I grab platinum at the roots with the hand that broke her grip and I hold her head against the mud while I throw another right into the open cheek. She is still moving. I feel it. I rake the free hand down her side, short and mean, and I dig in at the hip. I am gasping. She is right there gasping too. I draw one more back from this close range, arm shaking, knuckles split, and I throw it at the hinge. We are both destroyed. Neither of us is done. I keep the hair. I stay on her. The fight is still even. I am still swinging with nothing left. Yt

She ripped her head against the pull and drove her shoulder forward into my chest while we were both on our sides. It closed the space. She got her free hand on the wrist that had her hair and dug the nails in, twisting until the grip broke. She did not let the wrist go. She yanked my arm across my body and punched with the other hand, short, into the side of my head, then into the mouth. Blood strung. She hooked her leg over mine so I could not roll her, and she used it to turn us so she was half on top again. Her knee slipped in the leaves and she made it stick. She stayed low and heavy. The punch hit the shut-eye side of my face. The next one hit the body. She grabbed my hair at the roots and held my head against the mud while another right landed on the open cheek. The rake down my side dug in at the hip. She is still on me. I am as destroyed as she is. Nose pouring. One eye shut. The other a slit that is not clearing. Mouth split and full. Arms heavy past answering. Legs shaking and not lifting. She is still swinging. I am not.

I try to get the free hand up. It rises an inch off the mud and drops. I try to turn my face. It moves a fraction and stops. Blood runs from the corner of my mouth into the leaves and I do not spit. I try to buck. My hips do not leave the ground. The arm she yanked across me stays where she put it. I reach for her hair and my fingers touch strands and do not close. Nothing comes out of me that is a word or a swing. The slit eye waters and the clearing is just weight and red and the sound of the stream. I leave the hand where it fell. I do not claw. I do not punch. I do not knee. There is no energy left to attack her. There is no energy left to defend. I am under her in the mud at the edge of the water with my head held and my face open, and all I can do is lie here while she is still on me. I am done moving. I am still here. I cannot fight anymore. Yt

BrittanyBusty

Her free hand rose an inch and dropped. She tried to turn her face and it barely moved. Blood ran from the corner of her mouth into the leaves and she did not spit. The buck did not happen. Her hips stayed on the ground. The arm I yanked across her stayed where I put it. She reached for my hair and her fingers touched strands and did not close. Nothing came out of her that was a swing or a word. The slit eye watered and stopped tracking. She left the hand where it fell. No claw. No punch. No knee. She is under me in the mud at the edge of the water with her head in my grip and her face open, and she cannot fight anymore. I feel how empty that is. Something mean and last surges up through the exhaustion. I use all of it.

I tighten the fist in her hair and I slam her head into the mud, hard, once. I do not give her the second to settle. I punch down into the open cheek, all of the burst behind it. Blood jumps. I hit the same cheek again. Then the mouth. Then the mouth again. Red strings off her lip onto my knuckles and her chest. I let the hair go with one hand only so I can slap her across the pouring nose, open palm, hard enough that blood sprays into the leaves. I close the fist and I crack the hinge. I crack the shut-eye side. I take the hair with both hands again, wrench her head up, and slam it back down into the wet ground. Once. Twice. Her mouth is open and slack on the second one.

I shift higher on her chest so more of my weight sits on her. I punch: cheek, body, cheek, mouth. Short. Heavy. Wet. Nothing is coming back. No hand. No hip. No sound that means she is still in this. I hook an arm under her neck and I half-lift her just to drive an elbow into the side of her head, temple then jaw. More blood from the ear. I shove her flat again. I straddle her. I look at what is left. Shut eye. Slit eye that is not seeing. Nose running red and not stopping. Mouth wrecked and open. Chest and hair and the mud painted with it. I wind the heavy right up, the one I have been saving in the tank of whatever is left, and I bring it down flush on the open cheek. Her head rocks hard and stays. I hit the same cheek again before it can move. Still nothing.
I grab the hair one last time and I slam her head into the mud to be sure. It bounces and settles. Her eyes are empty. Her mouth is slack. Her hands are still. Blood runs from her nose and lip into the leaves and the edge of the stream. She is ruined. She is out. She is done. I stay on her long enough to know there is no claw and no buck and no last try left in her. Then I wipe my own bloody face on my forearm, stand up off her, and look down at what is left by the water. Destroyed. Finished. Not getting up.

Fourteen and one. I leave her there.
