Most of the sites with the best action feature women who speak German, Spanish, Portuguese, or Japanese. Dialogue, believe it or not, is extremely important, especially at the end of the fight. The submission is the money shot and hearing the loser scream her submission and beg for mercy is the climax. These scenes are about the humiliation of losing to another woman, not about wrestling moves. Some post match humiliation (like face sitting) also adds to the appeal.
You also mentioned that your original idea was to emulate the action in the old apartment wrestling magazines. A large portion of this fan base are also fans of those magazines, as well as Cavalier and Nugget.
