In the interview with the female director, she indicated the film was a project for her film school. The commentator even asked whether she received a good grade on the film. And it was apparently shown at a Canadian film festival in 2011.
Fascinating subject! I doubt we will ever see a return to that kind of contest. We're much more civilized today....MMA, cagefighting, etc.
Seriously though, doesn't it seem like as a society we've taken a giant step backwards? We went from gladiatorial fights to non-lethal boxing, and now we've thrown away the large padded boxing gloves for fingerless small gloves. It's almost like we're just a stone's throw away from returning to the old bare knuckle contests.
On that subject, years ago, I saw an old video (maybe youtube before they started policing their videos) of two women in a sanctioned bare knuckle fight in a boxing ring. I got the impression that it was a featured bout on a regular boxing card. If I remember correctly, the ring mat was adorned with a beer sponsor logo. Anyway, the announcer in his tux, introduced the two girls, the bell rang, and they went at each other.
The fight was very short. One girl completely dominated the other from the start, so it was only a very short fight. But the concept really intrigued me.
Do any of the "older" members of the group remember seeing anything like what I'm talking about?
