So, I heard a female boxer on the radio[I don't remember her name], who has lived in several different countries, say the U.S. is the only country that seems to be repressed, when it comes to female combat sports, in other country, female boxing is mainstream.  However, in American, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I was wondering if any members, of this site, share her opinion, due to what you have witness, as well.

In my opinion, North America is ahead of other countries in female MMA, but lags in other female combat sports, for sure compared to Europe.  We're getting there, but some of the mainstream combat sports are not as high profiled here as in Europe and perhaps Asia (Japan anyway).  I'm thinking of wrestling, judo, boxing and a few other combat sports that we hardly see here.  We have the Fight Network here in Canada and they sometimes show the World Combat Sports tournaments that include both men and women.  I don't think the the US or Canada are even represented.  Lots of scandinavian countries are represented (Holland, Switzerland, Norway, etc.), as are Russia, Bulgaria, Japan, Brazil, etc. and they have very talented women representing them.  This is only one example.  But I tend to agree with what that female fighter said.  My opinion only...

Thanks wrstlvr for your insight, to add to your comment,
In most of the major cities, there are male and female tournaments being held[judo, wrestling, boxing] in  American, the thing is, they are just not broadcast on the networks, The way they are in Europe.

I think each continent or country has its own sports priorities. For example the UK is quite strong in judo so some good women judo fighters but useless at wrestling so virtually no women freestyle wrestlers. At eh 2012 London Olympics UK  women judo figthers and boxers got big coverage because they were expcted to do well - and more coverage when they suceeded. The USA has led the way in replacing pro boxing with MMA thanks to Dana White etc so some good women and huge coverage for Rousey and Holmes.

If you took a country like Pakistan women clealry are in a different place culturally and you wouldn't expect to see women in MA but Kabaddi which is a sport where the players have to wrestle to win is huge so womens teams are not only allowed but feature big time on TV and youtube.
