THE GO-BETWEEN CHAPTER 3
« on: December 07, 2024, 03:23:03 PM »
Final Chapter in a couple of days

                                                             THE GO-BETWEEN CHAPTER 3

                                                                               AVA & HARPER

Simone always told Gwen, “The closer they were as friends the worse the fighting when they become enemies.” And because of that Simone knew that the Ava/Harper fight would be quite serious.

At the hospital where their husbands worked, the male nurses used to call them “The Pretty Pair.”  They didn’t look one bit alike, but they were very pretty and they were always came as a pair.  Where one was the other was too.  That’s how close they were as friends.

Ava was from North Carolina. Came North for school at Princeton, met her surgeon to be husband, got married and settled in Queens once he got his internship at Sloane-Kettering.

Harper was an Ohio gal, Went to Dartmouth, met her surgeon husband, got married and settled in Queens once he got his internship at Sloane-Kettering.

They were immediate best friends.  The pretty pair.

Simone always had the women who were going to fight come to her home a few days before the fight for “orientation.”  Most of the time they would come separately, not wanting to be in the company of their enemy.  But sometimes the women who were going to fight would come together, and hold their anger in abeyance.  Simone thought that was because were wary that their foe might get some private info that might give them an advantage.  Harper and Ava were in that category. They agreed on a “cease fire” and although they did not speak to each other during the tour they did attend it together.

Simone welcomed them into her home, and first showed them the small elevator she had installed that reached up to the third floor where “The Star Pad” was located.  She sad, “We are going to use the stairs, but the elevator is here for use going down after the fight, if needed.”  Ava and Harper swallowed hard. Each vowed not to need the elevator.

Ava was beautiful, fit, athletic and just a killer.  Men threw themselves at her.  She could be dismissive without being cruel.  She would pick the men, not the other way around.  She was around 5’5, long straight dark brown hair framing her face. Fierce hazel eyes.  She was mostly Italian but a grandfather on her father’s side was half Japanese. As a result,  Ava didn’t look asian, but she did have an exotic look to her.  She had never fought another woman in her life, until Harper. In fact, she was quite surprised that she was so willing to go to The Star Pad and fight her. She had never felt hate like this before.

Harper, a fair skinned midwestern blonde, with blue eyes could match Ava easily in the looks and sexiness department.  She was also around 5’5 and had a way of shaking her head so her wavy blonde locks tousled in the wind and drove guys wild.  There wasn’t a single cheerleading team that she tried out for that she was not immediately elected Captain.  Could a person possibly be too popular?  Well that would be Harper.  She shocked herself at how much she grew to hate Ava. It troubled her a bit, until the minute she knew she was going to fight the whore, and at that point she embraced the hate.

One flight up was where several bedrooms were located.  Two of the rooms were designated as “recovery rooms” for the women to use after the fight if they needed to rest and pull themselves together. At the top of the second flight of stars at the entrance to the fighting room was a hand carved sign over the archway.  It read “Here You Will Find Out Who The Better Woman Is.  Is It You?”  The women read the sign without comment.

There was nothing but success for Harper, Ava and their husbands.  The Doctors had set up an exclusive private practice, where the gals would pitch in with some of the paper work.  The two couples bought expensive condos on the same block on the upper East Side of Manhattan. Everything was perfect.  Until it wasn’t.

They entered “The Star Pad” and the women were struck by how large and spacious it was.  Two thirds of the room was covered by the huge mat and fairy lights above it.  Simone showed them the far end of the room where the 2 small changing rooms were and a bathroom between them. Framed art of naked women fighting covered that wall. “I actually considered putting some mirrors on the walls or ceiling, but rejected that idea.  Who wants to look at themselves in the mirror while they are fighting?”

One summer they rented a place out in the Hamptons for a week’s getaway, and an odd thing occurred.  The gals were lying out on the deck topless when Harper said, “You know, you’ve got great tits Ava.”

“No, you’ve got great tits!”

“No, you!” Harper leaned over the railing of the deck and shouted to the husbands who were working on a jet ski down below.  “Boys, don’t you think Ava has great tits?”

The guys said that she sure did!  “See I told you Ava, you’ve got great tits!”

With that Ava grabbed Harper by the hand and dragged her into the house towards a bedroom that had a full length mirror.  The two topless women stood side by side and gazed at their bodies in the mirror.  “See Harper, your tits are great.  Even better than mine.”

“No way, Ava!”  And then the women started to laugh.  But it wasn’t that funny.  It was just a bit uncomfortable, and maybe, just maybe one or both of the women thought that her tits were really better.

And then soon after, things got really bad.

Then Simone showed them the dark blue mat where they would fight, and the circle which represented their commitment to fight once they entered it.  “And, that’s about it. Any questions?”

Harper asked, “Is there any video recording equipment here?  I don’t want this showing up online, you know.”

“Absolutely not.  Your privacy is my paramount concern. The only other person that will be in this room with you is me.  And unless a rule has been broken I will not say or do anything until a woman verbally submits or loses consciousness”

Both women started fucking the other’s husband.  The swap was no secret.  Everyone knew it was going on and sort of agreed to it in a way.  They were all so close, it was the natural evolution of things, but it put a tremendous strain on the friendship and the marriages.  More than once the women, while they were getting laid would ask, “I’m a better fuck than her, right?”

Gossip started (“Someone told me she called you a ‘whore’).  Accusations in texts and emails.  They stopped speaking to each other, and the husbands talked about disbanding their partnership.  Twice it actually got physical.

Once they were in the ladies room at a Hospital Fundraiser.  One said, “Oh look the slut is here.” The other lunged and made a bit of contact before other women stepped in.  The second time was more public when they ran into each other on the street and came together clawing and spitting before once again being quickly separated.  They came very close to being arrested that day, but dodged the bullet.

“Are there any timeouts?”

“None.  You fight until one woman wins.  However, in some of the longer fights I have had here, the woman will separate, give themselves some distance. and stop fighting for a time.  It’s usually to catch their breath before resuming.  But long fights are fairly rare.”

“Why is that?”

“Usually one woman is stronger than the other and has her way with her opponent.  Gets her down, keeps her down and hurts her until she gives up.”  Ava and Harper swallowed hard a second time.

“The longer fights are when the women have equal strength and desire.”  Both Ava and Harper were confident that they were stronger and had more desire than the other.  Except maybe not?

Word of that clash spread like wildfire. And when the wife of one of the Hospital Administrators heard of it, she dug Simone’s business card out of her purse and gave it to Harper. She told Harper, “Many years ago Vern was having a fling with one of the nurses on the 7th floor.  Her and I met with Simone and after I was done with her she never saw Vern again. Call Simone, set up an appointment.  Simone will call Ava, and make arrangements for the 2 of you to have an ‘interview.””

One week later the once great friends, now bitter enemies, sat in Simone’s office to discuss their “interview.”

The orientation tour was over. Ava and Harper would find out the answers on Friday.

Not bad.  But why no prior fights?  And how (specifically) did the two affairs start?

I’m not answering for Rich and I don’t intend to add to his story. I’m sure he has his own reasons why these marriages and friendships imploded. But as an RN who has spent years in academic teaching hospitals, mostly in the northeast U.S., I can share a few real life insights about the situation of these characters.

Ava and Harper’s first mistake was marrying surgery interns.

Marrying a surgery intern (first year resident) is uniquely challenging. Unless the spouse knows what to expect and the relationship is solidly based on mutual understanding, love, trust and commitment, marriage to an intern can be a setup for disaster.

Surgery residency lasts a minimum of five years and can be as long as eight years. Residents are not paid much and typically work 80+ hours/week. The spouse will be alone many nights, weekends and holidays. When he is home, he is often exhausted and stressed out. Unless one of them is from a wealthy family, If they live in a large northeast city, like Manhattan, she will need to work so they can barely afford a small efficiency apartment. Also, he likely is in huge debt from medical school loans in addition to his Ivy League undergraduate student loans.

After residency, private practice can be lucrative, but the hours can be worse and come with enormous pressure.

Years of this loneliness, financial strain, disillusionment and intense pressure and demanding life can make people vulnerable to bad decisions like infidelity, alcohol, overspending into debt, etc.

It’s not hard to imagine how this life would ruin the women’s marriages and relationship with each other, resulting in jealousy and resentment, sexual indiscretion, then hatred which could fester for years, even when the big money comes in. By then, the damage is done  and the relationships are volatile.

So be very careful about marrying an intern (male or female). You might end up with a rich doctor, but you will both need to endure tough years and be willing to make big sacrifices.
Don’t bother walking a mile in my shoes. That would be boring. Spend thirty seconds in my head. That’ll freak you right out.

Thanks for that insight Kiva.  I really gave very little consideration to the real world implications of the career that I chose for the guys.  As long as they could make big bucks it worked for me.  Maybe I should have made them accountants?  LOL

I think surgeon husbands works fine for your story. I’m hoping your ladies won’t need a surgeon after their fight. LOL
