Disputed by two goddesses

I don't know where to post this topic, but as it doesn't fit anywhere else I'll leave it here. I'm no history/Greek mythology student but (for obvious reasons) I found this interesting.

If you don't want to watch the video then here's a (spoiler alert) summary. A compromise is agreed where Aphrodite gets Adonis for a third of every year, Persephone gets him for another third, and the remaining third is his own to do with as he pleases.

In an alternative (imagined) scenario Aphrodite and Persephone could have just had a catfight over Adonis for the remaining third. That would have made a great movie. One that I'd pay top dollar to see, even an AI version.

In lots of myths/stories, Hera/Juno gets jealous of Zeus's "side chicks" and turns them into various grotesque beings.

It's interesting because of both of their dynamics as well. Persephone with her darker, underworld vibe vs. Aphrodite with the whole love/beauty goddess aura. Beauty vs darkness, love vs death.

Excellent catch! The whole good girl vs bad girl scenario is a big deal to me, so I'm really surprised I didn't make that connection myself.
There's also the angle that Aphrodite was the lover of Adonis first. Then Persephone decided she wanted to break up their relationship and steal him away from Aphrodite. Gives a bit more depth to her back girl back story.

According to Waylon Jennings "Venus di Milo (the Roman Aphrodite) "lots both of her arms in a wrestling match to win a brown-eyed handsome man."  Maybe Chuck Berry (the author of the song) knew something.   ;D ;D
