J T edson was seriuosly popular author
« on: February 09, 2013, 01:20:01 PM »
The Uk's public library assocation has just published a list of its most popular authors in the 1980's and now.

There are very few if any J T Edson boks left in libraries today, they were always paperbasks so get worn out.

However in the mid 1980's he was the 6th most popular author in Uk public libary fiction borrowings.

Now westerns used to be popular but he beat more famous western authors like Louis L'Amour easily.

As he was the only easy source of catfights and women fights pre - internet it suggests just how popular our little interest really is!

J.T. Edson was one of my favorite authors for obvious reasons.  I have about 20 of his books including his now rare book titled "The Ladies of J.T. Edson" which features quite a few women fights.  One of my favorities was "Bunduki". Unlike the Westerns that Edson was known for, "Bunduki" has a "Tarzan" Jungle theme and featured several good female fights. The book was actually authorized by the son of Edgar Rice Burroughs. The lead character is Bunduki, Tarzan's adopted son and the female lead is "Dawn", an adoptive cousine. The book was published in 1975 and was Book 1 of a 5 book series. The 2nd book was "Bunduki and Dawn" (Jan 1976) and the 3rd book was "Sacrifice for thte Quagga God" (Oct 1976). After the third book was published, the Burroughs Estate withdrew their authorization to use the Tarzan name; so, the 4th book - "Fearless Master of the Junge" (Jun 1980) and the 5th book - "Amazons of Zillikian" do not mention the family connection to Tarzan and Jane.  This series is almost impossible to find although you may find them in England. I purchased my copy of Bunduki on a trip to England. I do not know if there are any fighting women in the other 4 books of the series but I would say there is a high probability that there is.

For what it is worth, I believe that "Quiet Town" has the best fight of the Western series.

I believe that JT Edson is still alive; at least, he was about two years ago.

Unfortuately, of all of the Edson's books that I have, Slip Gun is not one of them.  By the way, I research the other books in the Bunduki series. I found that Book 5 was never published because of legal issues. Books 2 thru 4 are available at speciality book store for prices from $159 to $500.  Unbelievable!

Thanks for the quick research.  I do have 'The Wildcats".  It's been a long time since I read it so I am sure that I will enjoy.  I also found "Fearless Master of the Jungle" in my collection. I didn't realize that I had it.
