There was a similar thread back in 2011. Here's my response to that one:
First, I would agree with some of those who've posted their responses that mature starts around 45. Second, I don't believe there is an age limit on mature catfights. If two women have a strong dislike/disagreement with each other and they are in relatively good health and shape, then there is nothing to prevent them from having at each other physically. But, from what I've been told by those who witnessed catfights between mature or older women, they usually aren't fast moving and are more likely to involve hair pulling and some slapping. Two [now three] examples will serve to ilustrate my point.
A friend worked for an auction house. Two attractive women in their fifties were bidding on a series of antique quilts that were up for sale. They were both wearing summer dresses and hats, and were about the same build -- one had long, light-brown hair, which was pulled back in a ponytail, and the other had long dark-brown hair, also pulled back in a ponytail. Things heated up between them as they got involved in a bidding war over one particular quilt. The woman with light-brown hair won the quilt. When the next quilt came up for auction, the woman with dark-brown hair opened the bidding higher than the starting bid, supposedly signaling that she wanted the quilt, no matter the cost. The light-brown haired woman began bidding against her. When the woman with dark-brown hair felt the price was high enough, she purposely dropped out of the bidding, leaving the other woman "holding the bag" as it were.
After the sale of the quilts was over, the two women ran into each other outside the auction tent. Words were exchanged, then slaps, then both women knocked the summer hats off each other's heads and grabbed their rival's ponytails, quickly pulling them loose. With their hair down, they began tearing at each other's long locks like crazy. This went on for several minutes until my friend and a couple of other men with the auction house separated the two ladies. Interestingly, a crowd had gathered round the two combatants -- mostly women -- who were cheering-on/encouraging the two women to "rip her hair out!"
The other catfight was between two women in their late sixties who got in a fight at a county fair that a cousin of mine was attending. She didn't know them, so wasn't able to find out the cause of their dispute. Again, they were similarly built and somewhat pleasingly plump. Both were wearing summer dresses and carrying handbags. One had salt-and-pepper hair, done-up in a French twist. The other woman had white hair put up in a bun.
When my cousin came upon the scene, the two women were in the middle of a heated argument. Suddenly, the woman with white hair swung her handbag at salt-and-pepper, hitting her. Salt-and-pepper did likewise, hitting the white-haired woman. Dropping their handbags, their hands flew to their heads. In no time, they removed the hair grips, pulling their hair down until it was loose. It didn't take long for others to intervene, but not before both women had pulled long stands from each other's head.
Since I wrote the 5 paragraphs, above, back in Dec. 2011, I've been told of another hair pulling catfight between two, brunette moms in their mid forties. Their daughters got in a hair pulling match and both claimed the other one started it. Naturally, each mom believed their daughter and not the other girl. When the two forty-something moms met to "discuss" what had happened, they accused each other of insinuating that their daughter was the liar. This led to a terrific argument, then slapping, and then kicking and hair pulling -- with thick, bra-length hair, they both had plenty to latch onto. After sometime, one mom gave up. Although both women lost hair, the loser lost the most which is the reason she quit.
Catfights happen and age isn't necessarily the determining factor.
