You may be recalling either the FWA or BRA, both of which I believe used the Zeus simulator.  Its matches were clunkily played out, and despite the statistics used, the match results could seem utterly random.  But it could still make for an interesting raw guideline for writers who wanted to expand on the matches.

The real fun of those leagues was the roleplaying posts on their message boards...at least for me.

Here's a link to the most recent version of Zeus, if you'd like to check it out:  http://lurkerfaqs.com/boards/218-pro-wrestling-wwe/63235846/

And for old time's sake, here's a link to the old message board of the ASFWA, which was the successor fed to the FWA:  http://www.webring.org/l/rd?ring=hwfwf;id=1;url=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.fortunecity.ws%2Froswell%2Fstreiber%2F282%2Findex-2.html
