have you ever heard of a discipline called "Calcio fiorentino" (Florentine football) or "Calcio storico" (Historic football)?
It's an early form of football played in medieval times in Italy: the game is played on a field of sand with a narrow slit constituting the goal, running the width of each end. Each teams comprises 27 players who are allowed to use both feet and hands to pass and control the ball. Goals (or cacce) are scored by throwing the ball over into the netting at the end of the field. There is a main referee, six linesmen and a field master. Each match is played out for 50 minutes with the winner being the team with the most goals scored.
This sport it's still played in Florence (hence its name) and it's a very brutal discipline, the modern version of calcio allows tactics such as head-butting, punching, elbowing, and choking.
The only banned things are sucker punches, kicks to the head and two (or more) one one attacks.
I can imagine what you are thinking: "what this has to do with the topic of this forum"?
Well it's seems that a couple of years ago women started playing it too.
