Kaufman is certainly not done in mma! She showed new tools  in that fight, did more kicking, just needs to work on groundfight. Got to remember the level of excellence she has over all, she has been in the top 10 for a good while, and still is. There will always be a place for top people and she hasn’t lost her ability yet. But time is an opponent no fighter can ever defeat,  and she is 30 years old. She will continue a major player for a few years still. She is not Rousey, but no one is at Rhonda’s level…incl  Cris Cyborg

Another thing I keep wondering is why most people at this site, nd most guys generally, do not find real women really fighting sexy? why do so many want to watch overweight or pumped up women with phony bodies rather than strong, skilled fighters who are actual in shape atheletes? Some of the real fighting champions are beautiful and sexy . people are starting to realize that: Rousey, and Carano, and also  world class boxer  Lucia Rijker are in Hollwood and signing movie deals.  ah well...

In the case of WMMA, 2 major detractors of sexiness, at least for me, are:  (1) the tightly-braided hair is a major turnoff, and (2) nothing sexy about an armbar.

so? theses two things counter all the rest? Hair is braided to keep it out of the way, armbars are used because they bring submissions. It is an actual fight you are seeing, done to win, by real women who love to fight. that is the main thing here. reality is how it IS, fantasy is having everything you particularly want  exactly how you want it.  Yes, that makes a good vacation from pesky, determined reality. We all need that. So very few want the reality of competition, and the rare pleasure of fight.

Would you rather have a real woman, or a fantasy woman? OOPS, walked into that one, *L*. Competition is sexy, muscle, power and skill, fight fire, even arm bars are all sexy, speaking from inside the experience. So what is one detail isn't EXACTLY how you want it? Those women, in mma or real boxing, are not there primarily to put on a show, they are there because they love the challenge, domination, the experience of fight, and to earn money. The women in almost all wrestling and catfight vids are there to earn money, not to fight or for challenge in any way. I come here to find people, preferably women, who appreciate, even better who have experienced, the reality of  fight and know the strange pleasure of it. they are rare as green diamonds, but when you find one, ~WHEW~!! what an experience..

But if 2 women are fighting IRL, you don't see one out of the blue armbar the other.  How are armbar's real?

oh gosh, how are they real?  watch rousey, you will see they are real. Most women don't fight like that because you don't see people in a real fight  do what they don't know, and don't have as muscle memory for. Rhonda's mother was a judoka and woke her up by putting on a playful armbar. Rousey is the extreme example, but I guarantee you she doesn't *think* about a fight move, anymore that a major league pitcher thinks about how to throw a ball. And she  IS a she- how unfeminine!  Doesn't she know how to be a real woman?? It is another way to see women as 'less'.

I have had women here say that hair pulling and scratching are the 'natural feminine' ways to fight. BS. that is the ineffective, unskilled way to fight. Armbars, joint locks and chokes are very powerful submission holds that can be dangerous. The first lesson in  judo is "how to fall", but the second is responsibility for your opponent. All these holds have to be used only enough to get a tap, and if you have a stubborn opponent you just release them.

Think about it. A strange thing about winning is that the fight action is the fun, but winning stops that fun. I think winning serves as a common goal to organize the action. Fight slower and sensual to be erotic, fight hard and skilled to win a fight. Bite, slap, sequel and roll around to please a man.

Well, you're right about one thing.  A rear naked choke hold sure stops the fun.

Anyone else think the loss by Sarah Kaufman is the end of stand up WMMA fighting?

I take it you haven't seen Joanna Jedrzejczyk fight?

Valid point.  But that's a smaller weightclass, where even end-to-end stand up rarely results in KOs.

Holly Holm will show if world class strikers can dominate in WMMA.  She can end a fight with one punch or kick, but of course will need to have the ground skills for when she is taken down to the mat.

I was very disappointed with Holly Holm after seeing her (UFC) debut against No.14-ranked Raquel Pennington at UFC 184. She barely won the match by split decision. I can't believe she was the most dominant female boxing champion in history...I wasn't impressed with her technic (no comparison to Jedrzejczyk) and no KO power in her punches. I don't believe we will ever see her in a title fight for the belt.
