IS IT TIME TO SHUT DOWN CELEBRITY FIGHTS FORUM?
« on: September 15, 2015, 03:42:38 PM »
I've been talking to people in private about this for some time now. I have been following this forum for a while and other forums before this one. fact is forums and boards were better in the old days. like way better. back then people would write stories and not do these endless polls that noone cares for. when I visit this forum I see lots of new posts. 99% of them I don't even open cause I know it's gonna be yet another useless poll. what's the use? absolutely nothing. is it time to call it a day? let's have an honest discussion about this instead of yelling. I'm serious. has this forum reached a point where it's really of no use anymore? personally I've almost reached the point where I think this is the case. and am I any better myself? do I write lots of stories? no. no time. like the rest of you I'm sure

Why have you got a problem with polls? They're the most exciting things, if you don't like them you don't need to read them or vote in them.

I love the polls. Just ignore it if you don't like it.

Ok, i see your point and have also been a bit down on the celebrity thread for a while now.  Do i think it is time to shut it down?  NO.

It is obvious to everyone that there are some people who do not like polls, but there are people who do and as was already pointed out by herboyfriend to some the polls are their favorite part.  No one is going to like everything here, from polls to stories and so on, but that is the nature of it.  I don't like everything here, but understand there are people that enjoy things i do not as well as there are those who do not like what i do.  That is going to be on any board you ever go to.

Where i see the celebrity thread slipping is a lack in the number of members who participate in any way.  It is the same people who post all of the polls, write all of the stories and make all of the comments.  To those of you that fit in this category I want to say thank you, because without you there would be zero content here.

Are there are a lack of stories here?  Maybe, but not everyone has the time, or the courage to write a story and post it on here for others to see.  I bet there are plenty of members here who have written something and never posted it, and to them i say don't be afraid.  For the most part it is a supportive community.

What the celebrity thread is truly missing is more participation from those who do not regularly participate.  I will use something very recently as an example:  There was a post recently asking people what match ups they would like to see, and it got a large amount of responses.  Members are not lacking for ideas or dream fights they want and what the thread needs are those people to create, whether it be a story or a poll.  You all have great ideas, put them in motion.

If you have a great thought or idea on a poll match going on tell us what it is, for example say who you think is going to win the match and how, use your words to paint the amazing picture that is in your head.  I am guilty of this myself and will make a more concerted effort to share.  Hope others will do the same.

Tell authors of stories what you like to see happen in fights, most of them will truly appreciate it and i can only speak for myself but it helps to finish and we normally aim to pleas those who read it.

All of us who visit this site regularly enjoy it, and like to see more out of it.  The key to that is more participation, we are the driving force behind the content.  Use this board as a way to creatively release what is on you mind on this subject matter i guarantee you will enjoy your experience here more, as well as make it more enjoyable for others.  If you can't write stories, then do a poll, if you don't like polls, come up with a fun conversation topic, if none of that works for you share your thoughts on a poll or story that you see.

As often happens, people "perceive" a problem and leap to the conclusion that they have the answer.

The so-called "problem" with the Celebrity Fights (story) forum is NOT the stories, it's the CELEBRITY (who'd beat who) POLLS!!

http://www.freecatfights.com/forums/index.php/board,9.0.html already has POLLS... it doesn't restrict their polls to "celebrities", "moms" or "girls next door" it's POLLS, that's all.

The way to "fix" (if it even needs fixing) the CELEBRITY FIGHTS forum is to make it impossible for people to generate POLLS in the group. Force them (against their will) to use ONLY the "Catfight Polls" forum for posting polls.

That will do away with (what? half? three quarters?) of the posts in the Celebrity Fights forum.

Then the space could be filled with "non-polls" (people asking "if A and B fought, who do you think would win?") i.e., NOT a poll, just a question.

We can (and many of us do) bemoan the lack of celebrity fight stories! Personally, I'd love to see each and every POLL on the Celebrity Fight forum be followed up with a story - based on the result of the poll.

Sadly, that's not happening. People gen up a POLL, post a couple of pictures, sit back and enjoy the comments (getting off doubtlessly) but neither they, nor their trolls, bother to write a story about that fight.

So what shall we do? Eliminate POLLS? Eliminate people? (my personal favourite!) Or continue to put up with being disappointed?

I've no answer..... but I thank those (few) of you who read this far.

No I don't think it is.  When I do a poll it is just for guidance and not to determine a winner.  I have one place to write stories and its here, you also have excellent stories from Jackflash and other terrific writers.

Most recently you had an excellent fight that was pretty spot on for how the writers of Parks and Rec see their characters.  We don't get that story if you remove this board.

Am I fan of the never ending polls... No but removing this all together is not the answer.

On searching this site though with one of those polls it was a one vote difference between Ashley Greene and Teresa Palmer.  I used that poll to embolden my writing of their fight which I think is one of my better ones

I miss Kim and Ginny's site as they'd post the stories to the web but this place is terrific for so many things and I really don't want to lose Celebrity Fights.  I'd like to see some policing so if the women aren't celebrities they are moved but thats nothing really

I see Ginny responded and I know from my personal experience writing the comment made on my Durance vs. Wagner fight caused me great happiness.

I look at the views and fight stories don't seem to get as much views as polls or maybe its just me.

It does get frustrating to think you did good work but then nothing.  Luckily a few ppl DM me and its terrific
There are stories being posted I'm sorry I don't post frequent but I write as fast as I can depending on ideas and if it's good.  these tournaments are huge

I long for the days of the Kim and Ginny site and other such sites, that at were one time plentiful. I see some of those writers here trying to continue, which is awesome and they continue to put out good stories. As far as I know there are very few celeb wrestling sites any more. Some of us are in FAWN still are still doing stories http://fawn-wrestling.freeforums.net/ we've lost several webpages as boards and sites disable us for various reasons. If I remember correctly not being able to find sites is why K&G shut down.

Other issues have driven others out of story writing, the time involved in doing stories being a big reason. Not to blame anyone, as I'm guilty of it too, but lack of responses or acknowledgement of the effort put into the story is disheartening. Feedback from readers is like writing fuel, so if you do see a story you like let the writers know, if you disagree with an out come or part of the story it's cool to give constructive tips. Any comments that lead to discussion help the writer.

Its tough to put your work out there, I salute all of you that do.

I still write stories to the polls I make. It just takes some time to write a story.

I have no issues with the polls themselves, just trolls who hack the voting and ruin it for the rest.  >:(

Actually the poll section you linked to is only for polls involving members.
Have fun and tussle.

Interesting replies! I wonder, what is the difference between asking 'who would win', and asking 'who would win' and attaching a poll to the question? Again, if you don't like the poll you can just ignore it.
Also, I agree, a lot of the stuff on FCF simply doesn't interest me, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. It's a very varied, well organised and easy to use forum, where all preferences can be represented.
