Hey everyone!!
I've been hearing from so many of my friends about all kinds of problems they have been having with Yahoo (especially on Mac) as far as last year since the Yosemite OS was released. And I've heard all kinds of tricks and people jumping hoops (including going out to purchase Netbooks and all kinds of devices to make Yahoo work again). This problem only got worse with the release of the new Mobile version for Messenger. So I thought I might give everyone my current solution and work-around, that might help some of you ^^
I am also a Mac User, but a friend of mine set my Mac in a way to have both Windows and Mac running at the same device. I honestly didn't know that was possible until he helped me with it, but the steps are as follows:
1) You need to have a MS Windows license - that is usually the tricky part, unless you are a student, in which case most universities will provide you with a free student license. A lot of others will have an old Windows 7 or 8 license laying around, and those *DO* work as well (more about that in step #2). If you don't have access to either of them, I guess you will just have to buy a Windows license, which costs around $120. That is completely up to everyone, but since I know people who went out and bought Windows laptops for hundreds of dollars just to run yahoo, I think this is a much cheaper option.
2) You need to go to MS website, and download the 'ISO' windows installation that matches the license you have... And then copy that ISO file to a USB flash drive.
3) On Mac, run the 'BootCamp' application. And just follow the steps!!
4) Profit!!
The outcome is that you will have your good old Mac, with the lovely MacOS, but with the option on boot-up to go to the Windows installation, and use the much more stable Yahoo Messenger for Windows instead of Trillian or all other dodgy methods people are using.
The added bonus is that the installations are completely and utterly separate. You can choose which OS to boot to from the options, and any files you have in the Windows will not be accessible by the Mac version, and vice-versa, which is a GREAT advantage if you have family members who use the same computer, and you are worried about privacy issues!!
And of course, if the new setup doesn't seem fun for you, you can literally undo it in 10 seconds through the BootCamp application!! So it's honestly worth the try.. For me, it works like a charm!!
Hope that would help some of you!! And if anyone has any questions, just toss me a message and I will help!!
