Politics and Catfighting
« on: February 18, 2016, 08:31:45 PM »
As an American Government teacher I'm always on the alert for current topics to discuss in class.  Certainly the passing of Justice Scalia and the ramifications will be an interesting topic to talk about when school reconvenes on Monday.  But one topic that I'd never dare discuss would be: What would be the political fall-out if any candidate for political office (local, state or national) was found to have a love of catfights?  What if he/she were found to hang out on this website?   What if they had a large stash of catfight vids saved to their computer or DVD's stored in a closet?  Would it be a disaster for that candidate?

Any thoughts?

I don't know whether a love of catfights would disqualify a potential candidate for high office, but I can see how it might be embarrassing for a candidate if the fact was ever made public.

It might depend on reason(s) the person was interested in catfights in the first place, and also, what type of girl fighting was involved.  For example, if the candidate liked to see female MMA, then I wouldn't see a problem.  However, if the person enjoyed seeing scantily clad women wrestle and tear each other's clothes off, that could be a problem.  Or, if the candidate just enjoyed seeing a good contest, again, such as MMA, that would probably be OK.  But if the person revealed they were "turned on" by seeing women fight, again, that might be a problem.

I guess I won't be running for any political office any time soon!

Though catfighting and the acceptance of girls fighting has come a long way in the last 50 years, it still would probably be considered a character flaw if a potential candidate admitted his love of catfights.  QUESTION : Please respond:  How would it be viewed if a female political candidate like Sarah Palin or Hilary Clinton admitted that she enjoyed catfighting or has been involved in private arranged catfights?

I don't think it would go over too well amongst the conservatives, especially the religious conservatives.

I am a conservative voter. I do not see a problem. If the candidate to the office to fight in organized or random battles did not it would affect my decision when voting. Count her views, previous achievements, and what kind of Lobbyists her sponsor. The same applies to the male candidate, who liked to fight women.

In my country, Poland, I vote for "Law and Justice" (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość), party conservative. If I learned that the Prime Minister of my government, Ms. Beata Szydło was fighting, she has more points for me. Especially if she would win.

I would say it would probably vary depending on a lot of things.  I don't think just an allegation that the candidate was into it would be enough to make the news.  There is so much of that going on that we never hear about already.  If there were a picture of the candidate and/or his wife online here looking for opponents or some video evidence or something, it probably would make the news.  I suspect for most Democrats it would depend on their reaction to the allegations.  If they replied "it is none of your business what kinks I and/or my wife are into" probably not a problem.  If they lie about it, say their computer account was hacked, etc. probably would be a major setback, but not a career ender.  They might have to drop out of the spotlight for a few years, but then they would be welcomed back with open arms, maybe even celebrated like Bill Clinton.  A Conservative Republican... probably would be the end of their political career.  While not everybody would judge them, there is enough of the base that would reject anybody with any kink attached to them that they could never win.  That would be of course unless their last name is Trump.  Trump could come out and say just how much he would love to see his wife fight any of his ex love interests, another celebrity, or another candidates wife and his numbers would probably go up.
I love catfights and chatting.  Look me up on trillian at ljack66   (I think... just figuring Trillian out)

Wasn't there a story a few years ago about Bill Clinton's brother, and Hillary's brother-in-law, trying to arrange a catfight between two women?

Rex Ryan has a pretty well documented foot fetish and that did not cost him his job.

But for the POTUS? I think it would be enough to cost them a few percentage points. Maybe 4 or 5.

Rex Ryan has a foot fetish?  Maybe that's why he has so much trouble finding a decent place kicker.

You must see some politics from Spain as Ana Mato or Carmen Chacon, one vs the other in this poll.

Or our Queen Letizia vs her sister in law, the Infanta Cristina.

Obviously we here on this site wouldn't have a problem with it but it's a kinky fetish and regardless of what it consists of, it would cost a candidate a lot of votes. Same as, say, if they revealed they liked S & M, B & D or whatever.
That being said, I would love it if Trump admitted to having a catfight fetish. I can see the girls on SNL doing a skit on it - wowzer!

I figure if someone is going for public office it's bad for them if they prefer grape jelly to strawberry.  I'm thinking that admiring a world class FEMALE skier might be ok but admiring a world class female fighter - probably not so good for the image.  I consider it and I think most on this forum consider our interest in female fighting/catfights/sexfights to be a fetish.  That word is the kiss of death to a politician.  Just my $.02 worth.

yes, It would be because we in the USA are pretty embarrassed about sexuality and we don't seem as a culture to think that it is essentially a good thing, we fear it's power.

Also, cat and other forms of women fighting counters  traditional views of women's role- STILL alinve- and esp if far as it is guys liking women fighting it smacks (no pun) of violence toward women as an expression of hostility, never something women could want or find sexy. real men don't hit women, at least not good men.

can you repeat that last part? from the STILL alinve part? I got most of it, but it reads strangely.

yeah, I have AWARDS for shitty typing. "alinve"  I strangely mean "alive". The traditional view of women's role, feminine = soft, even weak...wife, housewife-- that old view is still ALIVE even these days.
