Is Ronda Rousey finished as a fighter?
« on: February 24, 2016, 03:51:54 AM »
A clip from Ronda's first public interview since her loss to Holly Holm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erSBq0Rdmmk

Ronda has already withdrawn from her proposed rematch with Holly to focus on her film work instead. So I'm thinking her career could now follow the same trajectory as Gina Carano's ... one defeat then out of the octagon and into the movies.

Gina never got over her loss to Cyborg, and Ronda also looks like a broken fighter to me. But maybe that's because I'm looking at her in the same way as if she was a male.

Any thoughts?

Difference between Carano and Rousey? Carano was always humble and a professional who went up against the most feared fighter and lost, no tears or hiding. Rousey became to much of a bully, unprofessional and began to believe her own press of taking on male boxing champions, then she got rocked by a female boxing champion. I liked Rousey in the beginning but she became to full of herself and disrespectful.

Yes, she's finished as a fighter. Oh and thanks for the video, yes she's broken. Carano did not break and cry during post interviews and suddenly want to make babies.

The example of Carano and Rousey makes the resilience of Miesha Tate all the more impressive.  Rousey beat Tate twice, but couldn't break her--Tate kept coming back for more.

Great comparison!! I agree. I've never known of a champion so completely beaten, her first instinct is to procreate instead of revenge.

Cyrano was a tub of lard who struggled to make weight her entire career and was already checked out well before the Cyborg fight. She did that one just for the paycheck.
RIP the account of Sophie Cees.

I agree. Carano look out of shape, no muscle, tone, just did not look ready.

I remember thinking during the weigh-in for the Cyborg fight, "Good God, she looks like she just came from a Maxim shoot. She looks like one of the ring girls!"

Compare that to weigh-ins from earlier fights:

But... DAMN!

Things got very interesting after last weekend ..

Miesha tate seemed to have Holly Holmes running scared much of the fight.
Seemed Holly was looking off balance. Not really comfortable .. Trying to let time run out. Hoping for one lucky kick for herself.

Now we have a circle ... Holly beat Ronda with a surprise kick ...
Miesha choked Holly out .. Which was partially what Rousey was maybe looking for ..
Ronda has beaten Miesha before .. So who gets next match against Miesha??

Um...what? Holm clearly won 3 of the rounds and fought just like she has in every fight except for the one against Rousey. She's a counter puncher, not the aggressor, and simply hadn't fought a wrestler before.

Gotta agree with Leroy. Holly has always been a counter puncher. I think she was a little baffled with a wrestler's style but she will be back and even better. No hide and cry for her. Her grappling improves a bit and watch out. Rousey should be finished in my opinion but she may jump back in just because she has beaten Tate twice before and probably thinks she has her number. Her actions after her loss were sad though, She laughed at and humiliated her opponents when she won. Then hides and threatens suicide when she loses. Sad.

Rousey is a typical bully.

Take everything RR says knowing it comes with a huge burden of hubris; which means a huge handicap for a fighter. Tate is still not an advanced striker compared to Holm- who is in mma now? But a great wrestler limits a striker's options pretty much. Tate knows how to get an opponent on the mat, and that is her world. She has grown as a fighter, Rousey...well Rousey was so astoundingly amazing that she does not even need to improve, right? ~chuckle~

Rousey and Tate will fight, for sure. Why? take yer pick: $$, Rousey's inflated ego *insisting* that she is the only fitting bantamweight champ, the real and deep dislike she and Tate have for each other. It is getting to be like a damn soap opera. One more fight would be great, then the spotlight should shift to Nunes and newer fighters.

Bottom line, making movies is easier and more lucrative, training and fighting is hard on the body and does not pay as well.

No unless Ronda losses to Tate. I feel HOlly Holm is way overlooked in her skill as a boxer and mma fighter...... But somehow the press always chooses what or who they like....
