A few thoughts on what might have happened:
With her dancer's body and off-screen athletic pursuits _ scuba diving, fencing, equestrian, swimming _ Lisa Gaye may be the fittest woman in this competition. From the start, Claudia Cardinale has difficulty getting a grip on Lisa's coiffure. Lisa has all the moves to dodge use Claudia's onrushing enthusiasm and then grab the girl's streaming long hair to slingshot her from one set of ropes to to the next. This match is another learning experience for young Claudia, who finds that despite raw talent, she lacks the training to cope with Lisa's speed and stamina.
In a back-and-forth contest, Bettie Page uses her legs to keep Mitzi Gaynor at long range and away from her long hair. But eventually, Mitzi rolls under a kick and takes Bettie down. Now, Mitzi 's powerful thighs give her a small but grinding edge on Page, which she steadily exploits. After Mitzi clamps down, Bettie continues to struggle fitfully before finally tapping out.
Sexy Martha Hyer has been around long enough not to be intimidated by Tina Louise's size. The blonde's determination surprises the younger woman. Tina reaches her for the cascading blonde hair, but Martha instead shoots in for a quick takedown and advantage. Despite the position, Tina is able to get to her feet, but Martha's leg wrap has her stumbling to the ground again. Once she has Tina on the mat this time, Martha yanks her head back by the hair, and slithers around for the pin.
Still trying to shake off the effects of her last battle, thin Jane Fonda looks like opportunity to Jeanne Crain. The match has hardly started when the shorter woman throws Jane, and as she tries to rise gets her in a half nelson and by the hair. With her free hand, Jane lashes backward at Jeanne and manages to break the grasp on her hair. She twists out of the grip and springs forward to tackle Jeanne to the mat. But Jane's reward is a facefull of knees and a bellyfull of feet. Jeanne simply kicks Fonda in the solar plexus, and Jane sprawls backward, gasping for breath. While Jane struggles, Jeanne finishes the upset with a facesit.
Big Bad Mama Angie Dickinson is tired of getting no respect, and it's Mamie Van Doren standing in her way. Angie has downed a couple of shots before the match, and pays little attention to the ref. Mamie is listening as he instructs the two women that, under the arcane rules for this contest, they are supoosed to use hairpulling. Mamie immediately gets a good grasp and is strong enough to yank Angie, but Angie uses the forward momentum as she punches Mamie in the pussy, then grabs on through her thin panties. Mamie squeals and jerks back, and Angie brings her head up sharply, butting Mamie on the jaw. That hurt, and Angie rubs her head, but it's Mamie who has been knocked to the mat. Still dazed, she sits up and starts to complain to the ref, who missed the fouls. While her head is turned, Angie grabs her by the hair and begins dragging her. Still being pulled, Mamie makes it onto her feet, but Angie rams her head first into a ring post. It's padded, but Mamie is too stunned to continue.
Diana Dors is more than a handful _ more than two handfuls _ for Stella Stevens. The smaller woman quickly finds herself at a disadvantage in close quarters. Diana pulls Stella by the hair into her own massive mammaries for a quick facial accompanied by a knee to the abdomen. But Stella is muscular as well as plucky. She breaks free and maintains her distance, then unleashes a series of darting attacks that leave Diana breathless and easy prey.
Hair pulling is one of Joan Collins' strengths. She's still outraged over the outcome of her last match _ she should have won on a disqualification. Rhonda Fleming was expecting an athletic contest, not some prissy hairpulling. She's startled by Joan's ferocious technique, and the amount of pain it inflicts. Rhonda is strong enough to break free, but she stumbles backward to the mat, crying out as she leaves tufts of hair behind in Joan's hands. Rhonda starts to get up, but Joan kicks her across the face, and she sees stars. The next thing she remembers is the ref raising Joan's hand.
Marilyn Monroe is the greatest sex symbol in the world, whatever Liz Taylor may think. So although it may be politic to underline that status by slapping down starlets, there's no sense for Marilyn to do more than what's necessary in these contests. Hairpulling is OK, no great damage done. But it hurts. And Rita Hayworth is desperate to win. Let the old gal have this one, Marilyn thinks. We all know who would come out on top if this were serious, don't we?
