I agree about Gaga's earlier album. I am a huge fan of unique female singers (Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, Laurie Anderson, Wanda Jackson, Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Shonen Knife, Nina Hagen, Bjork, Enya, Janis Joplin, Eivør Pálsdóttir, Go-Go's, Runaways, etc) and found both Gaga's and Perry's first albums underwhelming (except song "I Kissed A Girl") but their live shows were very visually interesting.
Always enjoyed an artist with a unique visual style and while the music wasn't always the best, those 2 girls did know how to put on a show. I am glad Gaga did go back to her jazz roots before she imploded and her fanbase is supporting the change. Too often artist try to change it up and the fans get fickle. Only Elvis Costello really got away with that from album to albumin the 90's and 00's. Some artists like Ray Charles and Neil Young also were allowed to cross over genres without taking hits from fans who don't like change.
