It began almost 45 year ago in St. Louis. Two TWA stewardesses ? as they were referred to then ? met afterhours on a layover to settle some longstanding differences. Of course, the male crew had encouraged and quite enjoyed the spectacle. There was a small gathering in a local hotel bar. Tickets were sold and bets were placed. In the end, the build-up far exceeded the actual match which took place later that night in a large hotel suite. One combatant was clearly superior in both skill and experience and dominated her outgunned rival quite quickly.
Aside from the loser, no one was disappointed though. They had just witnessed a remarkably exciting event. Little did they realize it would also be historic. The beginning of something that would become much bigger ? not just among flight crews in the USA, but around the world
After word leaked out, the loser had no choice but to leave TWA in search of friendlier skies elsewhere.
The winner however stayed and revelled in her victory. As word spread further and further, the number of people who said ?they were there? far exceeded the actual true attendance. The legend of 43 year old Lori ? the 5.5?145lb TWA stewardess from Erie Pennsylvania was born?and women from other airlines began hearing about the story. One in particular was very interested. She worked for United but that didn?t stop her from asking around?.looking for more information on Lori
