Scouting: Quick fists and an exhausting full-throttle style impressed KISS scouts enough to take a chance adding the Japanese-American from Hawaii to the roster. Little official fight tape exists of her which makes any real assessment difficult at this stage, but coaches have definitely noticed she certainly possesses scary speed and surprising punching power during Maeko's few training sessions at the facility. It's yet to be seen whether she can keep her gloves churning past the first few rounds, but if she can she'll be a lethal newbie to watch out for.

Scouting: Patience and strong fundamentals have elevated this second-year fighter above her rookie cohort. This year she'll be looking to be more aggressive, sharpening her killer instinct when she's in-control of a fight. Too often she plays it conservatively, letting her opponents back into the fight, a habit that's bitten her in the ass more than once. Still, when she's in a rhythm she's hard to stop, and all it takes is one well-placed glove to pick up a W.
Early in January, KISS (Killer Instinct Sisters Society) hosted an exhibition match between Maeko, a brand new addition to their ranks, and Kelsey, a promising sophomore fighter with title aspirations for the new year. The match was a kick-off to the 2019 season at the new KISS facility in Sunnydale, Texas. A new paint job and a little elbow grease had turned a small run-down gym into a fairly respectable indie fight venue. The invitation-only event modestly filled the gym with several VIP doners, families and friends of the organization, most of the KISS fighters, and a handful of fans from the local community. By default most of the attendees were in the corner for Kelsey, who had impressed in her debut season with a respectable seven wins over twelve fights -- the best of her rookie class. Most at the event didn't know of Maeko aside from the buzz coming from the league offices who seem smitten by her fiery, hair-trigger glovework.
Kelsey hopes to use the rookie as an opportunity to try out a few things she's learned in the off-season.What you get to decide is: who wins the first brawl of the year and how did the action play out?
