From the little bit of Italian that I know, it appears that the husband was playing a joke on his wife by having a female martial arts expert pretend to be interested him.  This angered his wife and the two women agreed to a boxing match.   Of  course when wife found out what she was up against, she was none too happy.  IMO, that's not a funny trick to pull on anyone, let alone your wife.   I'm sure that I'm missing more, but that's all my meager Italian will allow.

This why I love Italian women, but could never be married to one -- just too much passion.
