Interesting observations, Lauren. We might view things exactly the opposite in the States, perhaps because we're only now beginning to see a real influx of Indian and Pakistani people. Our empire never included them, whereas for you Brits, India was "The Jewel In The Crown." But I was lucky to grow up in a multiracial neighborhood in Chicago, and back in those days, when I hunted for food with a tribe of Cro-Magnons, it was understood that the hottest girl at our school was Ranjaka Patel. She was like a runway model. But I never saw an Indian girl in a fight, and never thought of them as tough. By contrast, we had several Japanese girls with attitude. Never saw them fight, either, but I always figured they'd be toughies, in part because most of them had fairly thick, muscular legs.
It should be said that I've also been to Sasebo, Japan, and the women distinguished themselves as, on average, the tiniest I had ever seen, equivalent in height to a smallish American 12 year old girl. Seriously, I was at a mall and I towered over all of them. Japanese-American girls were so much bigger. Sure, some of the Japanese women were what I'd call average-sized, but the overall smallness was remarkable, maybe 3 inches shorter than American women, on average. Now that would be a good place to look for an easy win.
