Pauline and Mary .. Thanks.. Thought I remembered Mel Gibson being on the movie cover. Why I thought could be a remake. Will put this down, as definate wish to see now.

See someone a fan of the Rocky movies .. Yer all washed up Rock!! Why don't ya go back to the docks where you belong!!  Still think one of my fave lines in all of them. Right before the exhibition bout between Rocky, and Hogan. Rokcy asks micky,, what do you think a guy like that eats. Micky replies with a weight  . Just before Rocky is introduced, with his weight. The figure given by Micky, in his reply.

Halloween horror style ... anyone fave spooky horror movies?? Have to be honest STILL think the original Halloween and the original Fog. Some of the best ever done.
Just a perfect mix of good actors, atmosphere, and those music pieces.. Both having that little nerve dancing notes, as things build, and happen.
Course probably did not help. First time I was watching the Fog. We actually had some heavy fog outside that night. Talk about perfect mood setting!!  LOL

Phantoms  adapted from Dean Koontz novel starring Rose Mcgowan is another good one. Just pacing, lighting, and way it is presented. Just gives you that uneasy feeling, while watching.

Changeling with Geroge C Scott .. This is a guilty favorite. .. Seems not many people know of this one. Yet it is a very well plotted, haunted murder mystery.

OK there are a few from me, anyone else??

Hmmm Horror movies difficult as the best of them have the ability to make you jump when you don't expect it but tend to be one shot weapons because if you watch them a second time you know what is coming.
But breaking the genre down into slasher, ghost and occult categories.

Halloween because it was probably the nastiest goriest film I ever saw when I saw it the first time.

The Devil Rides Out. Occult classic and with Charles Grey and Christopher Lee as the main protagonists you cant go far wrong although the sfx are dated now.

The Shining. Haunted house turns Jack Nicholson into a raving loony  "Here's Johhny!"

Oh and the Original Fright Night which although very silly still managed to make me jump.

I wouldn't call The Changeling a "guilty" pleasure, it is actually a very well made ghost story, very subtle and creepy and better than most of what passes for horror in today's movies.  It was an early 80's Canadian film which played breifly in the States but had numerous showings on cable TV and was released on DVD, sadly no Blu Ray yet.

This is a movie to seek out. Very good choice.

OK one quick change..  NONE of the Porn or xxx stuff. Let's leave that Genre OUT!! Hope no one will try and throw that in. Yet WILL ask Mods to delete any such posts to the thread. Just seems people start acting stupid. When that gets brought up or into thread.

I know someone brought up .. it's a wonderful life.. THAT reminds me .. one of the really neat things now. Happen to be some of the documentary's one classic films like this.
The combo, movie with making of special. Is the way to go that movie....  Some neat facts told about it. Like how a stage hands dumping of paint cans. Is glossed over by an actor. Ad libbed falling into something off screen. Got left in the movie.

Others that have good factoids or interesting things revealed.

Ten Commandments, with Yul Brynner and Charlton Heston.   The baby used in the opening scene. Being guided in the basket on the water. Actually was Charlton Hestons very recent born child.  There is something also, about the voice of God, at the burning bush scene. Will leave you one to check out.

Quiet Man . with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara ...  Some of Wayne's kids actually were used in the movie. A LOT of family reunions, and things going on. Between some of the actors, and crew.

Wizard of OZ .. NOT from documentary  YET how many people notice at one point. Scarecrow is carrying a gun, as a weapon?? Someone at work brought this point up. Happened to see photo online. YET the phot they had. Was NOT actually the scene it happened in.. Anyone remember seeing this?? Oh and yes, this also has some interesting things shared in making of mini documentary.

Thought would share something a bit different, with this theme.

Storm Jennifers Body has Megan Fox in it,,,none of the Jen's (Aniston, lopez etc show!)

As to films:

The Guns of Navarone  (from the Alistair Maclean book)

The Bridge on the River Kwai (a great movie)(sort of anti-war, but a bit of action)(also from a book)

Any of the Dirty Harry, Any of the Bond series.

The Sound of Music (don't ask me why....but I've seen it five times-oh maybe 8)(Yeah somehow it gets me in!!)

The Bodyguard (generally don't like Kevin Costner or Whitney, but both were good in this)(Whitney sadly gone too young)

First two Lethal Weapons., and the first Mad Max.

Trading places (Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd at their best.)

That'll do for now.

Simon not a long lost twin to my husband are you as your first two picks are on his list as well! Although when I asked him what films he could watch over and over a distinct pattern emerged in that they were all war films of some sort!

When this subject was first brought up I thought "Oh that's easy to answer!" but as more people have added theirs its reminded me of other films that I have made a point of watching whenever they crop up on TV.  Peccavi mentions Edward G Robinson not sure he ever made a bad film but the one I watch if I see it is on is "The Roaring Twenties"  Edward G, Humphrey Bogart, and James Cagney all in one film! Leslie Howard, hubby says "The first of the Few." was his best not a war film surprisingly but about RJ Mitchell the designer of the Spitfire so no surprise he would suggest that! Hitchcock "The Birds!" I know probably not his best film but I saw it when I was ten and it scared the life out of me and even now when I see flocks of birds gathering to lurk on telegraph wires they creep me out but I still watch it again!

I did suddenly realise that are a few films I watch over again not because they are particularly great cinema or even have good actors in but because they bring back memories of what I was doing at the time (possibly a sign of old age) "Breaking Glass" for instance first film I went to see with my husband back in the dark ages and amazingly not a war film.
