Also, popularity counted by the no. of likes couldn't possibly give the full picture. Personally, I might rate a story higher by the number of discussions it entailed as measured by the no. of posts revolving around that story.

There is also a case for views being a metric for stories with one or two posts on the thread As an example there are stories from before the likes system with more views than many of the "popular" stories. Using likes also risks giving the writers with a fanbase more credit than deserved. All you need is 20 fans who will always give your stories a like and you can be in the running pretty quick for being a great story regardless of actual quality. I will dsicuss this more in my hall of fame update thread
